| reply to jamez818 Re: [billing] New DSL Rate Hike
I called twice today and was told that my price was not changing because I had the "double bundle" However, I was also told that my speed was increased to 3.0 and alas, when I get home, it was not and there is not mention of it in my file.....we will have to wait and see if my price changes, but let me tell you, I have been trying to get 3.0 for almost 4 years and each time they tell me I dont qualify. Then tonight, the guy says i can handle just over five....
where do they get these people and this erroneous information??? |

1 edit | OK.
Well...they didn't push my order through until 8/12 (I called on 8/3), but they switched the actual service on 8/10.
I got a little surprise too.
The Margin stinks...but we'll see how it goes.
A quick HTTP download test shows about 325 Kbps (~2.6 Mbps).
Thanks. |

| Just so you know, the correct sync rate should be 3360/864. They really shouldn't have given you that speed, but if you can live with less than full speeds as well as the potential for a lot of disconnects, who cares. Also know, that if you ever call to complain about any issues, they will probably drop you to 1.5/384. |

1 edit | Yup...I know this.
I even told them that I was already maxed out (1.5/768) for my distance (13,960 ft.)...which is why this is a surprise.
So far...so good...no disconnects (or errors for that matter).
The only thing that bothers(?) me is why the UL is not 864. Is this tied somehow to the DL speed or...???
Thanks. |

I would think that they would change just as the DL stats do.
Thanks. |

| Warning Long Story.....I got the same email and not really knowing any better I signed up or more correctly put renewed online. After a couple of days I started to think hey maybe now is a good time to ask them if I could get a new Verizon wireless modem/router. When I moved a couple years ago and transferred my service I tried to set up wireless again with my Motorola wireless device. I tried for hours at a time for a couple of days no luck. I gave up and just ran a 100 ft cat5 Ethernet cord all around my house. Crazy right, especially knowing that about 8 months ago I hooked up my mother in laws dsl with Verizon and wireless and it was pretty simple. So back to the current situation, I called and talked to a guy and seemed like it would be easy he said all I would have to do was to sign up for the $1.00 a month maintenance plan and they would ship the wireless modem. I did and a modem came. Soon as I opened it I saw that it was not a wireless modem. Here is where the fighting began. I called them back and because of the computerized customer service system I always would start out talking to the wrong people and they all have different answers and then I get to the billing dept. I reached the billing dept, again my 3rd day of calling them and told my problem the lady Ms. Scott could offer no help. Said I would have to pay $69 bucks for the wireless and the $50 bucks my mother in law paid was only for new customers. So I told her so you all value new customers more than loyal customers since I had been a DSL customer for at least 4 years. She said that is why they lowered the price from $90 bucks because they had been getting complaints. I said ok let me speak with a supervisor she said no supervisors. I said give me a email address that I could email my concerns. She said no email address then I said give me a address where I could mail my concerns and she finally gave that a P.O. Box in Trenton NJ. Then I even used the chat pages to speak to support no help there only confirming that different departments handling different things and the tech chat folks couldn't even access the account for that needed billing dept. I said I never want to talk to billing again. Then I had a thought, I had remembered maybe 6-7 years ago sprintpcssux.com so I did a internet search on Verizon sucks and came up with a bunch of sites including this one. I found this thread and read it called the 1-800-358-2076 (retention #) Completely opposite response. No initial hold time. I explained the problem nicely and to the point I told her the other rep gave me the option of cancelling my service and coming in as a new customer taking 5 days to 3 weeks. Got a solution, very nice lady...She said the were shipping me the new wireless modem, and canceling the service plan the guy put me on and putting me on the one for the wireless modem. 1 Stop shop. We will see if it comes in and how this ends so I will update in a week or so. Thanks to all for the post and the info. I needed it. |

| reply to Jerome925 I got the false notification letter back in June, but haven't gotten a real letter yet and my commitment is up at the end of the month. I checked out the renewal page, and it says I can get $33.99 for a year's commitment (though the "false" letter was quoting that as my month-to-month rate), or $31.99 for life with a two-year commitment--I haven't seen anyone mention the "for life" option here. Of course, the for-life quote doesn't include any fees or taxes they may feel like tacking on in the future.
I'm probably going to try calling retention, but I do hate calling anyone at Verizon. I pray everything will still be working after they get off the phone with me. :-/ |

| I've seen the "for life" ads on TV, but the price they are quoting there is different than what I'm seeing online.
BTW...
The did "screw up" the billing (a week late) but the math was right at least this time. I have to call because basically my first month is short by nine days.
They also bumped me to the 3000/768 speed grade.I don't qualify for it...nor am I getting the full rate....but that's OK.
Thanks. |

| reply to jaydro Man, they don't want to give you the $27.99 for life even if you ask for it instead of the $19.99/$29.99 one-year commitment. That's what I got from retention. Told me they could transfer me to someone who maybe perhaps could get me the $27.99, but if they said no (and I was afraid this would involve some disconnect-reconnect DSL service shenanigans, and I don't want to go through that again), then I'd have to start over again with getting the $19.99 six-month deal. I just didn't want to have to go through this again next year. *sigh* |
