you're right. fiber costs 1/10 of copper to maintain. someone's gotta pay!

I'm betting the installation cost are substantial. Its going to be a long time before they "save" any money.

Yes, but fiber costs 10x as much as copper to deploy!

they save on maintenance immediately and forever, compared to copper.

Then in 10 years it should be a wash. Good return on investment considering... unless my math is wrong

Deploy costs are the only thing to consider. Ongoing maintenance and capacity also must be weighted. It's not an immediate return on the investment, but go out 10, 20, or 30 years and Verizon is betting that there will be.

Nope, fiber and copper installation costs are almost the same. In fact, when the copper gets larger, the fiber is cheaper due to cheaper materials. Labor is still labor, cable is still cable. The cost is still dominated by the labor costs and not the materials.

I have to disagree. Fiber optic cable is far more expensive that copper lines.

Well it might seem to some of us that they have no clue how to maintain the fiber once they install it.

FTTH, IF you build it, they will come.

But when it breaks, and it takes more than 40 days to fix it, they will leave !
