[CATV] Ondemand is now on.

I had to call it in but the OD service is now on for FWB/Destin. I got an not authorized screen until the operator fixed it. Something messed up last night when they turned it on.

Just a heads up for those of you in the FWB/Destin, FL area who get digital cable. I'm now watching Beverly Hills Cop on HBO.

Did you call them? I don't know about Pensacola but as stated above, I had to had it turned on. I still don't have the movie channel (going to have to call back) and yes, I subscribe to it.

How much is Howard, Anime and WWE? I may be getting Anime if that's reasonable.

I wouldn't normally ask this, but please do not call for this issue.

We are aware, but we can not fix it locally. There is an issue with they way our service codes (for service authorization) are linked, and The Movie Channel appears to be incorrect.

The soonest I can fix it is tommorow. I'm sorry.

A kid in a candy store? NO.. that would be me with an unlimited account at a computer store or radio store.

The OD is cool. I haven't seen the freezone yet. Just the premium movies.

I'm glad you like it.

It's 99% of the way there, but we needed to test to a wider audience to make sure we got the bugs out of it that we couldn't find with only a handful of employees.

The hard launch (marketting, customer awareness) is still TBD. Other markets are dependant on Fort Walton going well to prove our infrastructure in Pensacola (identical but seperate) and the installation and configuration of hardware in the outer hub sites.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but I'm very glad to be done with alpha testing.

At one point in this project, the software Atlanta uses to manage launch date and tasks had myself and the data engineer working *26* hour days to meet our timeline. For nearly two months we worked 18 hour days. It took us 12 days to stream a movie in Fort Walton Beach, and 7 for Pensacola. That span of time started with equipment just being racked. 19 days from power-on to streaming in the head end.

Suffice it to say, we are proud of this product and pretty eager to see it off our plate (at least in a launch sense..maintenece is now taking over my daily routine)

Our test bench in Pensacola at roughly 12 after a night full of failures. That was our first successful menu generation. The really ironic thing about this picture is that the screen saver on the laptop to the left says "Coming Soon - OnDemand"

Sounds like they still have some bugs to work out.

I think it's in beta right now. Interceed said he was working on getting it fixed. I thought it was a signal issue.

Try not to drool too much. That is quite cool. How many more units do you have there? (I'm sure there's more that we can't see in the photo)

Also, are those other test channels going to do anything or no? I noticed when I was in Palm Beach (Adelphia)I saw an entirely different menu before getting to the IPG.
Are those channels in relation to that or something different all together?

I do not know, but for me, I rather not have to mess with a menu in order to just get to the IPG, I rather have the guide button take me straight to the IPG.

Once the bugs are worked out it will work great. I have had OD in my area for the last couple of years. And I think I had only one problem with it and that was it would fail to load up on channel 1. It was a plant software issue so I would just use an alternate channel to get in. Took em a couple of days to fix it.

And as to the Anime OD Rob. It has a monthly subscription of around 7 or 8 bucks.

We've got some wierd issues.

First of all, Gulf Coast and Gainesville are the first MSO's to use XDQA's (eXtra Dense QAM Array) and NetCrypts. Being the case, we are beta testing the equipment while we beta test to customers

When we had only a couple VOD servers up, we'd see employees having wierd errors every once in a while, and usually they could tune back to the channel immediately and it would work. We couldn't nail anything down, and once we got more VOD servers running, the problems went away.

Well, they are back.

We got on a conference call with Scientific Atlanta, and there seems to be an issue with the NetCrypts returning MAC addresses of 00:00:00:00:00:00 or EE:EE:EE:EE:EE:EE when they are bombarded. The temporary fix is to static MAC addresses to the interface on the switch until a software patch is available.

We are going to be trying that Monday (we've all worked too many hours during the week to neglect our families on the weekend too).

Also, while we were struggling to get our NetCrypts and XDQA's working, we found out the labs at SA and our corporate office were running an older version of code (on the NetCrypt) then we were. Since that was our only straw to grasp at the time, we decided to mimic that setup. It worked. What we weren't told was that, immediately after the labs got their equipment working, they upgraded to the newer code.

We now have to balance the fact that we have gone live to a market with the requirement of doing two, almost immediate, software updates that could have huge repercussions.

The experience is going to get *much* better, but we've got some bumps in the road ahead

Stay tuned
