To put it in Verizon terms, this is like making a phone that only goes onto 1xRTT. Given the deal with AT&T they should have gone UMTS.

I agree.. EDGE 'may' be a little faster than 1xrtt, but not significantly so.
Also, with all the billions put into upgrading and deploying 3G, why not make use of it ?
I _finally_ got 3G here in Valencia.
My last run on Samsung ZX-20 - tethered over Bluetooth was decent. A datacable should double the speed. Still not sure why it shows myvzw.com on here.

Yeah the domain reporting is ALL screwed up. From my Cingular service, I showed myvzw.com in Vegas, and am appearing as davita.com here in Valencia!

That probably would have been best; after all, Sprint does have the large EVDO network in the US (plus they have the free EVDO roaming agreement with Alltel, making them all that much more "huge"). |

i think the problem was apple was being its usual demanding self. which is why Verizon didnt take them up on it as apple wanted to retain total control of sales locations and return policy where as other cell makers are more open with the telco.

Rumors abound have it they didn't want CDMA because it wasn't worldwide (just a rumor now...  ) and the primary reason, they were turned down by VZ because of Apples choke hold on the phone  (too many restrictions). Sprint just said "Apple who?"...  Would have like to have been a fly on the wall during that initial meeting.. |
