It's really not slow, either, except for the Edge thing (and it also does WiFi) -- 620 MHz ARM processor. I can pretty much bet if the phone was from, say Creative Labs, there wouldn't be much, if any, media frenzy about it. Indeed not, because there's zero chance that Creative Labs would ever produce anything like it. It just appears that when apple takes a dump, there are scores of people standing around to say "oh my god, what a new inovative pile of poop. And scores of other people standing around waiting to declare any new Apple product "poop", no matter how Insanely Great it really is. Oh well. I'm still waiting for someone to point out what is so great about this phone (other then it's marketing) that commands it's high price for as little as it does or lacks.. But hey, it's got a cool screen to keep you busy and if other manufactures come out with phones that let you stroke the screen.. then I guess that's a plus. |

How nice is it to download at 3g speeds, when it means you have to view the result on a Windows CE device? The iPhone isn't perfect. It's just radically better... scratch that... it's really just in a different category. If the iPhone is what you want, you will not be remotely happy with any of the nine. And possibly, if you need something like GPS, you won't be satisfied with the iPhone. But if you had one, and traded it for one of the nine, I think you'd regret it. By the time Apple is ready for 3g.. 4G will be the norm..
But that's the whole point. What does this phone REALLY offer minus the touch screen, that other phones don't offer? It's slow, clunky and costly. I can pretty much bet if the phone was from, say Creative Labs, there wouldn't be much, if any, media frenzy about it. It just appears that when apple takes a dump, there are scores of people standing around to say "oh my god, what a new inovative pile of poop. This is really going to be big. We gotta have it. It so raises the bar on stink"... |

It's feature set isn't all THAT spectacular. If you look at it just as a feature set, maybe not. But you have to see the device as a whole. There is nothing like it.
One feature, the touch screen, shouldn't be sold short. This isn't like what you're used to from Palm or Windows CE devices. It's multitouch -- kinda like the Microsoft Surface, only smaller, cheaper, and here now. See the demos where the guy "grabs" a picture with his fingers, stretches it and turns it? You've never done that before.
The arguments against the iPhone (yours and others') all seem to be from a "pragmatic" viewpoint, which kind of misses the point. No one needs an iPhone. It's purely about technophilia. -- 09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0 |

At least with that, you can place free calls thru VoIP from a free internet connection at a hotspot. They make mobile broadband cards too. I still can't believe people want to pay that much. It's feature set isn't all THAT spectacular. Quad band, touch screen phone with an iPod tethered into the phones motherboard. No removable storage. Locked to one network, with no firmware made that is certified by Apple to work with another GSM provider. It's stuck on GSM in the first place, making EDGE the only available data service, which sucks. The operating system is proprietary as hell. Leave it in your pocket, and find out that you called 8 of your friends by bumping into the screen thru your clothes. Finger prints all over the screen from pressing it. Slow ass iTunes has to be installed on your PC, also meaning you have to agree to take the Apple Media Player software, including QuickTime, just to activate it. Enough of my rant, but point blank, screw that phone. And people here are actually arguing back that it's worth it? Have fun with that piece of ........ Lord knows you won't be loving it when you cancel with AT&T, or your service gets shut off for non-payment due to the fact the phone costs so much $$$. -- SIPPhone/Gizmo # 17476200648 / PIMPNET Chatline / Ran by Asterisk & Slackware 10.1. |

I'll wait for iPhone 2. It's bullsh*t that the Europeans get HSDPA and we get EDGE... not to mention the crappy non-replaceable battery that forces you to always be near a power plug. |

That's right because Verizon and T-Mobile usually top them. Do not get confused when AT&T goes to town saying they're the best with part of the evaluation that in some bum Egypt market comes up with AT&T a .01 percentage point ahead. For someone who lives in a rural, less populated area, I appreciate carriers (like AT&T Affiliate Edge Wireless and US Cellular, two of the three carriers here, Verizon being the third) that cover us "unimportant" people. |
