|  Outage in Wheaton, IL Area??
Around 10:30 AM this morning (Saturday), my DSL service stopped. When I tried resetting the modem (Speedstream 5100), the DSL light is not coming on, and the router is continuously trying to reconnect, reporting timeout waiting for PADO (the usual condition when DSL is out at the link layer). The outage is not that unusual; we've had a number of short to medium duration outages in the past couple of weeks, but it always seems to come back. (In the past, DSL has been rock solid.) However, it has not been out for about 5 hours, and that is unusual.
Are other people having problems in the Wheaton, IL area?

Where in Wheaton are you? There is quite a bit of construction through various parts going on that could be affecting you. |

My modem is old; I've been wondering whether I should find a newer one, but my DSL service has been so reliable ever since it was made available in my neighborhood that I've been reluctant to mess with something that is working. |

1 edit | I understand. I bought a new modem (speedstream 4100 ~$20 off of ebay) about a year ago when I had a tiny spot of trouble and I got tired of reading how people could get information off the new modems. I had a 5360 which has no diagnostics.
I still have the 5360 as a backup. You're welcome to try it as a test/temporary if your modem ends up being the issue. |
