I wonder if this includes Alaska because 4 years ago, AT&T Alascom sold its entire GSM Alaskan footprint to Dobson to the tune of $3.9 million. Makes me wonder if AT&T recent acquisition will take out Dobson here in Alaska as well.
Are AT&T and AT&T Alascom different companies? One wouldn't think so... |

| said by pepperxn : Dobson was Alaska's largest wireless provider. I disagree with that statement. Dobson's footprint up here is nowhere close to that of ACS. Which is crap because ACS basically has a monopoly on everything involving telecommunications in this state. There is extremely limited competition in this state when it comes to telcos in general. Wireless is a different story, but not by much. -- Want my opnion, see »....Sucks

In Alaska, AT&T and CellularOne have been playing cell phone roulette for years. Neither provider can make up their mind whether to stay or go.
In 1994 I worked for an electronics retailer that sold CellularOne service. Sometime in 1995 CellularOne was sold or taken over by AT&T Wireless. In 2003, AT&T and CellularOne once again swapped ownership.
I don't care which provider offers cell phone service. All I ask is consistency and a good product.
AT&T Wireless was a good service, CellularOne not so much. |

| reply to McLovin From Bloomberg.com...
"The company is the largest wireless provider in Alaska, according to its Web site."
Looks like AT&T will gain 1.7 million customers, adding to their 1.5 million lead over Verizon Wireless.
"The sale of other rural providers may follow", "In addition to Dobson, Rural Cellular Corp., Centennial Communications Corp. and U.S. Cellular Corp. might be potential targets."
"Other companies with rural mobile-phone operations include Cincinnati Bell Inc. and Alaska Communications Systems Group Inc."
