[Connectivity] Comcast appears to be limiting bittorrent seeding

It looks like Comcast may be limiting their customers ability to seed torrents using Bittorrent.

What happens is if either an incoming or outgoing connection is created and your bittorrent client starts seeding a torrent without performing any leaching, at some point the connection is broken by the remote peer. This usually happens after transferring on the order of 256K bytes of information.

When I traced this behavior with Wireshark I saw several TCP RST packets being apparently sent by the remote peer resulting in the connection being torn down. I see this behavior with various leachers both inside and outside the USA. I also see this behavior when leaching from other Comcast users who are acting as seeders.

I suspect Comcast is using some sort of stateful packet inspection application which injects these packets into the stream to shut down TCP connections they wish to limit.
The interesting thing is these RST packets have several different TCP sequence numbers - some of which are wrong.

Someone else mentioned seeing this RST injection not too long ago, I wouldn't be surprised.

I don't seed much myself.

I've had to enable encryption to be able to do any
meaningful seeding using bittorrent.

Using encyption does NOT change the behavior I have described above

I just moved, and kept Comcast. Old house = no problem seeding. New house = complete throttling. At first, I could not connect with peers at all (to upload). After enabling encryption, I can connect briefly, but all uploads are throttled back to zero after a minute or two.

limit your bittorent client upload to 85% of your total upload speed.

BeoCmcstCntr,

I don't think you understand the issue here - your suggestion has no effect on the problem. I have tested at various upload limits.
