| GrandCentral Ringshare Policy Change Huge setback IMO. This was one of my favorite features. I looked over the new ringshares they have made available so far. I won't use any of them.

Unfortunately we can’t allow the uploading of personal MP3s and any group or individual contact settings that were using one of these will be reset to the default American ring tone. Never heard of it before -- what a cute little feature they went and killed!
Ridiculous too -- it's analogous to a web host telling its customers they can only put "licensed" stock photos on their web sites, because those personal photos just might be copyrighted by somebody else, somewhere. What gunshy nonsense...

If google did acquire GC, google's legal department must be making recommendations about anything with any hint of legality good or bad. For example, notifying both sides of a call that the call is being recorded and now, mp3s of any type getting the axe.
Both frills on my part since I didnt use either feature. But the big question is what is next?

For what little it's worth, this bit of speculation has caused me to sign up for my first GC account with a local number in my area.
I figure once the announcement hits, these things will be VERY hard to come by, until the big G starts buying up more DIDs...

Heh.. This afternoon, I signed on to the page (had created an account a while ago), and I saw the "signup" option. Just a few moments ago, I went back to the site and saw that it's "invitation only" now. I guess, along with the limited 'ringback' option, we're seeing the Google influence... |

join:2000-10-28 | Of course, considering how much "suspect" crap of individual users is hosted by Google on Youtube and other Google properties in its hosting and indexing capacity, it's really silly to concentrate on user-generated ringtones of all things. There's a really weird ringtone copyright cabal or something.
