Lovely. Another app that's going to lose XP functionality whilst it becomes more 'Vista-compatible', no doubt.
Not that I know that's your issue-- but the handwriting's on the wall, it seems.

I may or may not install this "update".

But thanks, Kabanos.

Not sure if this is related or if you use Kaspersky but I found this:

Q. Software --> Secrets freezes my computer. Why?

A. If Kaspersky Antivirus is running, stop it (or disable the "Proactive Defense").

I tried the same thing with the same AV with the same settings, no crash.

Thanks, Kabanos for the update, went through the internal updater and went flawlessly.

I'm not running any AV right now I'll try it on another machine. Seems to only freeze once it checks Tuneup Utilities executable.

Hi Lanik,
Can you download, please, the DEBUG version of SIW from
It creates a LOG file C:\SIW_LOG.TXT
Can you send me (siw@gtopala.com) that file (after the crash)?

Gabriel,

Thanks for your support, email sent.

My guess something in TuneUP Utilities SIW doesn't like, not sure what it is I might just have to reinstall TU and then it probably will work since they TU 2007 was installed on top of 2006.

Hope that helps.

FYI Lanik. I'm on WINXP SP2 with TU2006 and Secrets did not crash SIW. I do have a question for you though.

What am I to conclude if SIW's Secrets does successfully unveil a couple of passwords on my system? Albeit non critical passwords yet I wonder what I'm doing wrong if Secrets can figure them out?

Thanks for the head-up. Worked with no problems on my XP Pro SP2 box.

What I find interesting (and I don't recall previous versions doing this), is that SIW found some email accounts long since deleted from outlook express, along with my old passwords I don't use anymore.

Wonder where the heck they are hiding?
I'll have to look around the registry a bit..or maybe the closet? Under the bed?

Good thing it's a "secret" huh?

You can come to one of three conclusions-- SIW has clairvoyant abilities (possible, I suppose, yet unlikely), it's one helluva good guesser (I'm tossing that one out), or it's reading information stored deep down in some dark recess of your machine, like SAM.
My vote goes to the latter.
Albeit non critical passwords yet I wonder what I'm doing wrong if Secrets can figure them out?
Plugging your computer in, for starters.

Some potentially informative info (that's the best kind!) here:

And it's not the only program that can do that either. Just points out the importance of keeping malware off your system.

Hey bcool!

Ya know the passwords on say, a website?

Usually ***********.
In SIW, click Tools, Eureka.

Drag the magnifying glass to those ***********... Look at what is displayed in the small Eureka window.

What with dishonest employees stealing customer credit info or lost credit info and inherent weaknesses because of stored sensitive data that can be easily mined by nifty utilities - why I think your suggestion is beginning to sound reasonable. Why even plug the damn computer in? It seems sometimes, you can't win for losing...

I think I do remember talk about hash this or hash that where secret things are stored deep down in my computer. Now how to clean it up? hmmmmm....

Thanks!

I don't know where Kabanos See Profile even found that one! It's sure not listed on his website or blog anywhere, that I saw.

That's beyond silent-- this has gotta be the extra-super-double-secret debug version.

If it's like what happened to me one time Gabriel sent me the link for some troubleshooting. The Debug version creates a log file which the regular release version does not, unless there are some hidden switches. Hmmmmmm that might be a great option to include in the released version. Just run it with a switch for a log!
