[XP Pro] Installing XP on a Gateway Vista Notebook. Drivers?

One of my colleagues bought a nice Gateway W340UI laptop with Vista and wants me to install XP Pro. He has the XP Pro CD and all. However I cannot get a hold of the drivers for the Wi-Fi card, the Ethernet card and the Video card.
I called Gateway support since these drivers were not available on their site. Only Vista drivers! Answer was "we do not support downgrading our products!"
So I am stuck without the drivers and I cannot find any on the web.
Any suggestions?

two sugestions, first...
try and use a vista drive, it might or might not work I know with some vista systems xp drivers work well(dont know about the other way around)
second... you will have to get the manufacture and model number of the wifi/nic cards and either go to the manufacture web site, try driver guide.com or just google ex. "intelpro wireless windows xp driver"
and see what happens

ps. xp is usually good with finding regular NIC drivers very rare that it will not have it

hope this helps

I will try that
I reinstalled back Vista after the failed XP attempt so I can get the exact hardware details and will look for drivers.
Unfortunately Vista drivers were not working with XP Pro.

I figured that, upward compatibles is one thing with drivers but backward is a different story, like I know some xp drivers work with vista, as did win 2000 drivers with xp. but once you get the details of the hardware you would be able to find xp drivers. thats a shame how these companies are forcing vista on buyers/users, I can see selling with vista but no driver support is lame, Iam pretty sure its other models with the same harddware that their support site has the xp drivers for but that would be too much for them to tell you.

whats the model number of the gateway you have?

I also "downgraded" a new HP notebook to Windows XP. It was time consuming, but I just searched HP's site looking for other notebook models that used the same hardware, and downloaded the XP drivers that way.

Laptop model W340UI

My colleague only asked me yesterday and I am leaving tomorrow for a two and a half week business trip so I couldn't do much so far. I reinstalled quickly Vista so he will not be without his laptop while I am away and I will try to find all the drivers in the meantime.
Hopefully when I am back I will have everything.

Hardware with missing drivers:

Video Card: ATI Radeon Xpress 200M
Ethernet: Marvell Yukon 88E8038 PCI-E
Wi-Fi: Realtek 8185
Microsoft iSCSI Initiator

I need at least to find either the Ethernet or the Wi-FI drivers and after I will let XP find what it needs over Internet.

after some quick searches heres what I found...

for your NIC, this link is from driver guide...
»list.driverguide.com/list/compan···dex.html
heres the companys driver site

for the wi-fi, this link is from softpedia
»drivers.softpedia.com/get/NETWOR···04.shtml

heres realtek home page

for your video card heres a link from HP web site check it out

»h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/gene···-34805-1

and the ISCSI initiator I dont know about for sure, but I dont think getting a driver should be a problem, it sounds like some type of interface software to help windows on networks I would have to read up on it, I know someone here can elaborate on this

hope this helps and have a great trip also
