Rogers BitTorrent Speeds Increase?

I'm on phub.net.cable.rogers.com, using the regular Hi-Speed package. Recently my BitTorrent speeds have increased dramatically. I used to get 1kB/s upload, but as of right now, I'm averaging over 35kB/s upload speeds. On OiNK, my downloads have been around 700kB/s.

I'm using uTorrent 1.6.1 WITHOUT any encryption whatsoever. Recently downloaded a documentary from www.mvgroup.org which usually takes years at 10kB/s, but I was getting a consistent speed of around 55kB/s, which I'm currently seeding at 35kB/s.

Hmmm this is much better than the 10kB/s and 1kB/s upload I was getting previously for over a year. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not praising Rogers; I still hate them with a passion.

Am I the only one getting better speeds here?

Well seeded torrents can be quite fast.

The throttle engines do get adjusted / moved from time to time, so changes are inevitible

Still uploading strongly here. Jumping from 30kB/s to 59kB/s upload speeds now. It's been almost a day now. When I downloaded at around 700kB/s from OiNK, it was about a week ago.

I know this won't last forever. So I'm expecting things to go back to "normal" any second now.

Something is up with Rogers, even in the good 'ol days, the max upload I got was around 45kB/s.

That's a good guess that they're adjusting their packet shapers or whatnot and in my node packet shaping has been temporarily disabled. In the end, we can all count on Rogers to "fix" this atrocious problem soon.

You lucky bastards ... Rogers has crippled my torrent upload speed for like the last 4 months. The most I can upload on heavily active torrents is 20 - 22Kb/s, if their not very active, it crawls down to 3 - 5Kb/s.

Torrent downloads aren't bad. They max out around 200, which is livable. Anyone else here have their torrent download speed relatively unaffected, but their torrent upload speed crippled?

I used to get consistent speeds of upwards of 800 KB/s but then spyware messed up my pc so I had to reinstall the uTorrent and I think the max connection/upload settings got messed up and now I max out around 200-300KB/s but with faster seeded torrents it still can pull 300-450KB/s speeds..

*UPDATE*

Well it appears Rogers "fixed" things. My upload stays under 10kB/s and drops all the way down to 3.2kB/s to 0.0kB/s like it's having a seizure. My downloads are spazzing out too. Getting in the 300kB/s then drops to the 200kB/s in a nanosecond.

It took them a couple of days to fix this problem, but takes them 2 weeks to send a tech over to my house...

Sorry, I just had to laugh at this. It's so true.

(Apologies to sbrook).

My speeds have also gone back to normal prefiltering levels. I am getting 300+kB down in Azureus.

What was the purpose of this thread? To let Rogers know your torrent speeds were good?

I guess I should call the police and tell them I have a meth lab in my home

They aren't really messing with downloads... i've gotten up to 950K/s, it's the uploads which are crapped at 10K/s on known trackers... I have seen up to 90K/s or so on trackers I imagine they don't know about and haven't added to their filtering.

Slow speeds on downloads are pretty much 90% because of low seeders vs high leechers (peers)... ie. a torrent with 21 seeders and 1000+ leechers is going to suck no matter if your filtered or not.

Throttling is not done based on tracker, in spite of its appearance.

Re: Rogers BitTorrent Speeds Increase?

I may be missing something, but who cares about upload speeds on BT? Shouldn't downloading speeds be the main concern?

Throttled upload *can* impact download. Also throttled upload means you don't maintain your sharing ratios on many trackers, so the trackers will limit what you can pull.

... and eventually ban you if your ratio gets too low.

Re: Rogers uTorrent Speeds Suck

I'm using uTorrent 1.6.1, also on Rogers, phub.....com.

Still better than DSL..

My results from DSLReports are 5764/793.

At the moment my uploads are 57-65kbs my downloads very seldom hit 100-200kbs, may last for 20-30 seconds then you won't see a spike again for a half hour.. For the most part they hang at 0.3kbs to 22kbs..

With all this bandwidth, why is downloading via torrents like watching paint dry.

Thanks Clipbrd..

because in some areas throttling is more intense than others it seems.

Re: Rogers BitTorrent Speeds Increase?

Well I'm getting decent speeds again. Upload at 50+kB/s. Download fluctuating at anywhere between 300 to 800kB/s (on same torrent).
