"DVD Jon" exploring how to activate a brand new unactivated iPhone without signing up for AT&T service (the mobile phone service won't work, obviously).

well, "DVD Jon", we want to wish you good luck with activating your at&t phone w/o using at&t. we personally do not know what your issue is but we had no problem, basicly, man made it, man can break it...

Historically Apple has turned a blind eye to hacking. My guess is they can't officially encourage it, but let's face it, it boosts sales to have a product that can be user modified / adapted.
