They are the holy grail. They care about no money, but about their people! Would this device cost $600 if it DIDN'T have an apple logo on it? of course not. -- You can never be too rich, too thin or have too much Bandwidth |

They actually didn't want that. Apple shopped this thing around to everyone and everyone but ATT turned it down. Why? Because Apple controls the customer and makes the final decisions on repairs/replacements.
The wireless company (in this case ATT) can't even do a swap. No matter what the situation, the customer has to let the phone be shipped back to Apple where they make the decision on whether to replace/repair/deny. That can be a huge black eye in the customer service/retention department.
Not to mention, the stores can't even activate the phone. It has to be done through iTunes, at home. Talk about losing control of your subscriber... |

It can also be done in-store at an AT&T store or Apple store. A buddy of mine works for them and he told me that they can't. He said a customer actually came in with his laptop but the stores do not have access to iTunes (the internet is filtered through Dallas or something)
Not sure how they would be able to activate otherwise... |

| reply to chris Somhow I highly doubt it. If you were right, Apple would've released the iPhone unlocked.
1. Buy the iPhone from Apple and put in your favorite carrier's SIM in it for BASIC phone functionality (that's make and receive calls, smartphone users).
2. For all other functionality (Ipod, Web, etc) activate it in iTunes.
Problem solved, everyone's happy. |

The parts and assembly only cost Apple $200 to make it, and thats with any size memory, whether you get the 6 or 8 gig one. I am glad people are going nutz over it. I just got an idea, and now know that even though the IDEA only costs $50 to produce, I can sell it for $125.
