Wahaha

They have a ton of them in our area, see them activating them daily. They are seriously huge, technology doesn't bother me but I can totally understand why people would be extremely annnoyed.

They are half as high as I am, and slightly smaller than a SAI x-box, how is that still huge?

There's probably more than one size of these boxes.
The one near my house (still has no power, although the city was live May 1), is about 4 1/2' tall.

Agreed. I see a lot of the huge beige boxes popping up all over my city too. Well, in the areas with decent non-ghetto homes anyway. It's funny, they have similar boxes the size of a station wagon installed across the street from the telecom I work for. I know we hand off some pretty big circuits to them (OC-48's, OC-192's in the near future too I think) but still, there has to be a decent amount of spare room in that enclosure for future expansion or something...

I assume you mean a cabinet that is about 12'x6'x6'. Those cabinets are a completely different technology and/or completely different usage than the FTTN VRADs. That box is engineered to service an area about 12 times larger than the VRAD is today. Of course, distance is everything in FTTN, so they are setup for the wrong network.

They are really only about 4 feet tall, sure its not exactly half my height, but you get the idea, they are still much smaller than the 52B, slightly smaller than the SAI...what is the big deal?

I don't see too many people whining that their telco put a SAI in their neighborhood...

Yes, in fact those dimensions sound about right. If memory serves, there are two of these enclosures sitting across the street from our NOC. Stacked on top of eachother, they'd be about the size of our diesel generator.

There called RT or remote terminals, brings the co closed to the suburbs/served area and alot of times expands dsl availability

Not to be argumentative, but we have our own RT's and they're nowhere near the size of the big boys we're discussing above. The smallest we use are about the size of a small newspaper vending machine, and the largest cabinets we install are about five or six feet tall and have the dimensions of a large armoire. Granted, our units are all meant for deployment indoors, so maybe that has something to do with the size difference.
