I'm always paranoid about my data moving around in the open, regardless of the content.

Given the choice of broadcasting completely in the open or broadcasting encrypted packets with a low chance of interception, I'll still take encryption thanks. Nothing in this life is completely secure, but in my mind using or not using encryption is akin to locking or not locking your doors when you leave your home.

Mind you, I don't disagree with any particular point you've made; clearly the government has many ways to determine what you're doing online. It's those nefarious third party (non-government) individuals that I'd like to maintain some semblance of privacy against. Futile? Perhaps. My opinion is still that encryption is far better than transmitting sensitive information in the clear though.
