us robotics 9105 sureconnect

I have the above router and am unable to get ftp or vpn to work, i have been in and tried to set up an ftp server but get told that port 21 is already in use and changes it to port 2121.
Has anybody got any ideas how to get the router to allow me access for vpn and ftp
