| Any scooter riders?
I'm thinking about buying a scooter that's been sitting in a garage for a few years from a neighbor. It's one of these
»www.apriliausa.com/modelli/scara···p?id=120
Which actually looks like a pretty capable machine. I'll be using it around town--probably not on the freeway--for the odd errand and getting to work.
I used to ride motorcycles, so I'm to afraid of this thing, and it has 16" wheels, which make it look pretty stable.
Any other scooter people out there with advice? -- Iraq Coalition Deaths | bobrk |

| reply to bobrk Check the insurance quote first; underwriting a scooter is usually more expensive than a motorcycle with a similarly sized engine (sometimes much more).
If you can get a good deal on the scooter, I say go for it and PLEASE take a motorcycle safety course (it may be a licensing requirement in your state too). -- If you can't beat 'em, curse 'em behind their back! |

| reply to bobrk I was looking at Honda scooters last year. The funny thing was the Honda's lowest priced "starting" rider bike [nice looking cruiser] was 3 grand, vs the 6 grand for a basic scooter.
Sadly my wife killed the plan of me tooling around town in biker leathers and looking cool So instead I just drive my quad cab 1500 pickup where ever I go.. ya the chicks dig pick ups lol... -- Say no to the IRS.. | reply to bobrk I sell scooters for a living (own a dealorship). Insurance is 75-250/year on average based on your driving records. Most of my customers go Gieko or E-Surrance.

| Not sure yet. It's been sitting in the lady's garage for (she says) 3 years now, so I'm thinking I could probably get it for a couple grand or less.
Good news on the rates. I've got some great coverage from State Farm right now, and it's really cheap. -- Iraq Coalition Deaths | bobrk |

| reply to bobrk Cody, please see attached pictures. I'm not good at spelling, but I am darn good at fixing and selling scooters & motorcycles. Sorry if I dont have many left, but I am selling them too quickly, and cannot keep them in stock. Getting another weekly shipment of 20 bikes in on Wednsday. Also getting in 2x40ft container loads in a few weeks to stock up before State Fair, where I have a large 20x20 booth. Expected sails for state fair should equal my yearly sails for non-state fair. Cheers ^_^
Justin, agreed, At least with Vespa's, however, I've personally see their quality drasticlly drop as their prices have gone up.
Their are less Vespa's around here then any other scooter type, yet, I fix more Vespa's then anything else. Next are Honda Spree's and Elites, but the number of those are amazing.
Just insane though, the problems with these vespa's. However, Here in Milwaukee, I think it's just the dealor is causing the problems to get more business.
Lady friend of mine, has a vespa. Purchased at the end of last season. not even 900 miles on it, and it craps out on her, exactly 2 weeks out of warrinty. Took it to vespa dealer, they wanted around $1,000 to repair. She could have purchased one of my brand new Vespa look-a likes for that price (and mine go faster and have more features then the vespa).
Soooo, she brings here vespa over to me. I take look.... Fouled out spark plug was all the problem. Changed plug, and did oil change. $50 and she was on her way.
Thay also lied to her about the bikes top speed. they said 40-50mph top speed, she's lucky if she can hit 30 down hills. They said their was nothing they could do, and basically bait n switched her.

| I think vespas are for hipsters, mainly pose value. I love my burgman. Trouble free, quiet, loads of power, super comfortable! It even has a lockable car sized glove box and two other little boxes, as well as the under seat storage that can fit two helmets. |

1 edit | reply to Anonuser So the bike turned out to be much older and smaller than the lady thought. It's a 2001 Scarabeo 150, which is a two stroke. Somebody mentioned somwhere that it was a Rotax engine, which my brain translated to 2-stroke. It's a 4-stroke. I hear tha tthey're still quite fun, and we'll see if we can come together on a deal. The bike is ok, with only 1400 miles on it. There are some cosmetic issues, and the seats were slashed by somebody. The lady wants to get it going and then we'll talk about a price, which is fine with me, I don't want another project. -- Iraq Coalition Deaths | bobrk |

| reply to Cody No problem ^_^
English is my first language, however, years of Internet usage, running a business while still in High School (and honestly sleeping during most classes), as well as Married my wife, whom is Vietnamese, who spoke poor english when I first met her, and inheriting her whole family into my home, the poor grammar and language has transferred to myself.
Believe it or not, when you start talking broken english, and using poor grammar, it's 100% easier to understand someone who also speaks poorly and uses poor grammar.
Along with English, I'm working on learning Vietnamese, Italian, and Japanese.
so cheers ^_^ -- »www.WiiNetCommunity.com FREE RELIABLE WEB HOSTING! |

| reply to bobrk If it was a 4 stroke, I'd be worried (seals, oil etc... bla bla bla).
Being a 2 stroke. I'd completly drain the Oil. Even though it's not a Honda, go to a Honda Dealer and get a quart or 2 of GENUINE HONDA 2 STROKE MOTORCYCLE INJECTION OIL (yes, a lot to remember, but trust me, this stuff is the best!)
Next, auctually, I'd do this first. Take a peek-e-boo into the gas tank (BEFORE PURCHASING), if their is a nice build up of rust, or rust floating around, dont bother purchasing, that means your going to have to "burn" the rust out (I recommend using a acid) or replace the tank. Thats not a fun, nor easy project on any bike (unless your getting paid to do it ^_^).
Replace the battery, replace sparkplug, put 3 squirts of starting fluid on the air filter and fire er up. That should do it.
Would not even try starting it without replacing oil, gas, and sparkplug. -- »www.WiiNetCommunity.com FREE RELIABLE WEB HOSTING! |
