| SOHO/ADSL2 account question: any funky hardware required? I'm seriously considering bailing on Speakeasy due to the cost issue. LBDSL is looking very attractive.
I read elsewhere that on your ADSL2 account there's some kind of funky router that has the static IP registered to it. (?) That's a concern to me, as I need a very plain connection for my unix server/firewall--just give me the router IP, the DNS info, and a network port with a hot static IP. I can't handle USB modems or any other shenanigans.
The post I read was kind of vague though, so perhaps this fear is unfounded.
Can any users or staff let me know what to expect? Thanks. |

Auburn Hills, MI | We offer two IP options with our ADSL2+ products. Either option will use a Router as CPE.
1) a single IP address (default option), has the Public IP address assigned to the WAN side of the Router, and then NAT on the LAN side.
2) a /29 IP Block ($10/month). This options gives 1 Public IP address to the LAN side of the router (which acts as your gateway), and you then have 5 Public static IP's to use on your LAN as you see fit.

| I think I understand. If I want my machine to face the internet directly without NAT, I would need the IP block option.
Are the SOHO ADSL packages the same way?

Auburn Hills, MI | Correct, all our packages, with a single IP address are done this way, and then anything with a /29 or higher IP block, would allow your devices to be on the net with a public IP.
