patspub join:2005-02-10 Philadelphia, PA | My TV GUIDE DEMO I found this on the Gemstar website. This looks like what comcast plans on using soon for their Digital customers and Comcast DVR customers(non TIVO) It's worth watching the 13 minuntes. You can't really see the guide to good but you get a sense of it. By the way at the end of the video it doesn't seem like those "Ad's" are going away.

| reply to patspub Maybe its just me but does anyone else think that guide will make things even harder than they are today. I'm just looking at that demo and thinking wow I'm confused right from the start on what I'm really supposed to be doing. How the heck do I view all the available channels. This just makes things easier on all the shows you really like. It doesn't help you find more shows and IMO that just doesn't look very polished.
I think I'll be sticking to the Comcast Tivo software when available. At least the bright side is that the upcoming iguide software I saw a few weeks ago looked nothing like the above and was even better than what was shown in that video.
That is the software (i-guide A25) that will be offered later this year on both Motorola and Scientific Atlanta hardware. |

EDIT: How does the new i-guide A-25 look? Is it still the same as the current version on the Moto boxes? |

I'll keep an open mind, but to this point their stuff (and they think it is great mind you) has been nothing but VCR mindset dysfunctional crap. -- Comcast of NJ II - Union/Verona |

1 edit | reply to patspub Yeah the Tivo Interface looks much more polished. Although I would welcome a test drive with that new My TV Guide. Perhaps when it is finalized it will be great. I see that it looked like it was in 16:9, (hopefully the TV was just not set to FULL mode on 4:3). Channel logo's, customization, more graphics, always welcome. Still though, stuff just pop'd on screen. Where's the animation or fade in/outs. Even quick animations or fades won't take away from the experience, it just adds polish (look at Mac OSX, I-Pod, I-Phone, Windows Vista).
I can't wait to get Tivo software on my DVR. And after that I would love to see what they release for my DCT-700's. I'm starting to think that our boxes are only slow and limited because of the software. Now that developers have had time and more tools to optimize the platform, perhaps we'll see more robust capabilities from even a Motorola box.
Edit:
I just compared grid guides (Tivo and My TV Guide). I would take the Tivo guide hands down. The Tivo screen shots on the net appear to hold 7 rows of information where the My TV Guide shows 6 rows. While the My TV Guide has the advantage of widescreen, I still think the Tivo interface appears more polished. Can't wait to test drive them though. |

1 edit | reply to patspub Can't wait to this comes out. I hope the guide will be in HD 1080i.
Channel logo's are nice to see |

| I didn't see a box though. Is this just to replace the Gemstar Guide that's built in to many late model TV's, but pulls data off of the cable card? Or perhaps this is an OCAP TV they are using. It seems as if he is pointing the remote at the TV and not away from it where a set top could be hidden. |
