| reply to v8rail Re: Hughes email down?
Hi Folks - been reading this thread since my email went down. Still no email. My address is the primary on our account. My wifes works fine. Just got off the phone with the "wonderfull" tech support rep in India. Had no answer, offered a one day credit (big whoop). Tried to escalate the call to someone who spoke english beyond a script and was informed that for this issue you could not escalate the call. I am also in an area where there is no dsl or cable (just across the river in WI next to the Twin Cities) so I have no choice on broadband. I plan to switch my email to another provider. I am pissed. 2 days is inexcusable. |

| reply to Vtblues ditto everyone else with the email problem...ditto that my HN email is STILL down as well...and DITTO THAT FOR $70/MONTH YOU THINK THEY COULD GIVE YOU WHAT YOU FREAKING PAY FOR! what HN is doing is out and out fraud and misrepresentation...they tell you they provide a stable, high speed alternative to other types of services on one hand, but what you really get a great deal of the time is sub standard dialup service...
I don't understand how the FCC or whomever governs this market let's them get away with basically ripping people off for years now with zero legal repercussions...there seems to be no accountability whatsoever...it's worse than disgraceful...
all I want is what they sold me...all I want is what I pay for...but I guess I can want in one hand and crap in the other and see which hand gets full first! -- DW7000, G3C-PRIMARY 95West, Transponder 1360, Gateway 66.82.12.54, XP SP2, hub-3 computers, Firefox, sometimes IE6.... |

@direcpc.com | reply to Vtblues I am thinking of eating the early cancel fees and moving to wildblue. Anyone have any experience with them? The worst part is that I opted for the fasted home connection and am paying $90 a month. |

| reply to Vtblues Still down....
About WildBlue, I read somewhere (on these forums, I think) that their FAP is a monthly thing and when you hit it, you are done for...
Do your homework before switching. I don't know if things are any better over there....
If I knew then what I know now, I doubt I would have got Hughes. High speed internet is the drug that you just HAVE to have once you've tasted it, and Hughes is the crack dealer that you keep going back to for more.... |

| reply to krwest I don't usually use this site but was looking around to see what is going on with Hughesnet, and it looks like nobody knows. I've been down for 2 days also. I thought maybe they were hit with some major hacker or viral trouble and shut down while they try to get it cleared up. But in that case you would think all accounts would be shut off. |

| We are down since Sunday at 10 p.m. (Southern Ohio). Have checked every means possible to connect with Hughes. There is a half hour wait to talk to an Indian who can't speak english. Finally signed up with another web based email server for now. I have the pro service at 70.00 a month and it gets slower every day.....Think I will try that executive care number tomorrow. I am setting up an online business and 25 of my important emails to customers are hung up in Hughesnet at the moment. |

| reply to Vtblues Thanks for this post. My HughesNet e-mail has been down for 2 full days now (still down at 9 pm MST). I always come to this forum first to see if its a general problem or one specific to me. As usual no HughesNet posting on their "Customer Care" web page but they do have this problem noted on their customer service phone message.
I'm not an IT expert but my experience with company IT departments suggests to me that not fixing this problem for 2 days is due either to incompetence or they aren't trying very hard or both. I just don't get this.
I am pretty sure that calling first level customer care will be worthless so thanks for the exec. customer care number. -- HughesNet DW6000 CE/ G11 91W/ 1370 MHz/ XP SP2/ Software v 4.3.3.5 |

| reply to Vtblues I just received a survey from Hughes regarding their customer service. they asked for my comments and this is what they got "it wasn't the customer service person so much as the hughes system of support as a whole that I was dissatisfied with. While I know no promises are made regarding the email service provided, that for it to go unrepaired for 48+ hours is inexcusable. With that type of service provided I solved the problem myself, I now have a new email provider that I will use for important contacts as it has been demonstrated that hughes provides no reliability whatsoever" -- HughesNet/HN700S/Pro Plus Plan/.74 dish/Galaxy 16 (099 °W)1110.0 MHz/Win XP Home SP2/ P4 2.26 Gig 1 Gig of Ram

| reply to Vtblues OK, I got into the website email just now, 12:28am, but couldn't get in through my thunderbird. Of course, there is no mail for July 8, 9 or 1/2 of the 10th . Still nothing on their home page or customer care page, not a hint of a problem. This seems very weird, not incompetent. Is Dick Cheney running Hughesnet now? (Sorry Bushies |

| reply to Vtblues Here it is Tuesday night, almost Wednesday and still no e-mail service. Been down here since around 10:00 p.m. (CT) Sunday night.
Pretty poor customer service in my humble opinion. At the very least they could post something explaining what the issue is and an estimated time till repair. Leaving all their customers in the dark is very bad management, but then everyone already knows that..

| reply to Vtblues Got email last night at about 10P EDT. And true to form from Hughes, we'll NEVER get and apology "We're sorry", an explanation "The server failed during our 'maintenance' on Sunday, and we had no backup" or even get baffled by BS "Ther reverse diphasic inverse frappulator failed to synch with the translateral inducers causing a non harmonious situational event". (One of my favorite rules of life: If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with BS.)
Oh, and I forgot to mention: I suppose "support by email" is in India, too. After filling out my name on their email support form, they couldn't even spell my name right when they answered me not once or twice, but THREE times in their reply. I know that this is petty nit-picking on top of the already atrocious service that we get, you would think that they could read my name from their form and at least type my name right. It is not like Scot(t) is THAT difficult a name to spell....
To those of you who appear to STILL not have mail, I wish you luck. I'll be calling the executive care number myself today. |

| reply to Vtblues I'm no computer geeK, just a grandma who wants to keep in touch with the kids and surf the web. After assuming something was wrong with ME and with MY computer and fiddling with everything I could think of, I fianlly called Hughes customer service. Duh. A recording told me that THEY were having a problem with THEIR email program. And by my records their 'problem' took over 2 full days to rectify. I fully expected hundreds of back logged emails once the system was up and running again, but NO-OO-OO........Two days of emails are now lost in cyberspace somewhere.
We're in the boondocks of the Ozarks and I gave up slow dial up for Hughes 'high speed internet' service. (Anybody have a bridge they want to sell me?)
Our phone company now has Internet. It's not dsl, but it can't be any worse than Hughes, plus it's less than half the price. My contract is now up, so can you say "B'BYE HUGHES"??? |

| It's interesting to see the difference on the Wild Blue forum.
Someone posted that he's recently experiencing problems receiving email. He suspects it is due to the recent thunderstorms at his end.
There's also a post about changes to the Wild Blue FAP policy. They are relaxing penalties for everyone except outright abusers.
Otherwise its quiet. |
