You might try eBay. Westell, Netopia, 2 Wire (Well, the newer models) are good brands imo. I would make Netopia your best bet. Westells don't seem to tolerate thunderstorms so well, even distant ones.

Try the Netopia 2241N from AT&T or Ebay. Mine seen to work great during thunderstorms.

Yes the Netopia is Ethernet and can act as a router. Now about the Netopia 300, sorry I don't know anything about.

The only time my modem goes out in Thunderstorms is when the power goes out.

My westell is rock solid in thunderstorms.

I got a Netopia 2241N on Ebay about a month ago for $15. It was packaged for Bellsouth and had never been used. It came complete with cables, filters, etc. It is a lot more stable than the Westell 6100. Rarely loses sync at all...even during storms.

I also use to have a Westell 6100. I recently changed to the Netopia 2241N. The Westell really suck doing thunderstorms, while the Netopia works great thunder, lightening, rain and shine.

okay thanks for the feed back I will try ebay.

Just a note I looked it up on ebay and it says for ADSL2 and I don't think thats what I have. It says ADSL Lite and adsl2 and adsl2+ is this a different model? it says its made by Motorola Netopia 2241N-VGx ADSL2+ Gateway Firewall.
Did i look up the wrong one?

Thanks for the feedback.

I was wondering though my copper is under ground would thuderstorms affect the modem?

And do you or anyone else know about the Netopia 300?

Try Google, Google is your friend!

Just kidding!

I don't know if AT&T supports the Netopia 300 or not. It would not hurt to call AT&T and ask.

LOL that is some funny reviews thanks..

According to this review it says this model :
Netopia 3347

It is currently available through BellSouth for Business Class customers only.

Does this mean I cannot use this router for a residential ADSL?

I will consider it if Bellsouth doesn't support Netopia 3347 for a residential customer.

Thanks again.

The router will work fine on any BellSouth DSL line (any many resdiential customers are using it). You just can't get official support via the residential helpdesk.

If you are hunting up a modem for BellSouth FastAccess DSL the magic number for Westells is 30 and for Netopias is 006.

What you want is a modem that has been customized for BellSouth FastAccess DSL. The BellSouth Help Desk only supports the modems that have been customized for BellSouth.

Any ADSL modem will work with BellSouth FastAccess DSL as long as it supports a modulation of G.DMT or ADSL2/2+ and an Encapsulation of PPP over Ethernet or RFC-1483 Bridged Ethernet and if you can set it up for the BellSouth Virtual Circuit Configuration of Virtual Path Identifier(VPI)= 8 and Virtual Circuit Identifier(VCI)= 35 and it must support a Multiplexing of LLC/SNAP or VC Muxed.

If you get a Westell you want a 6100 or a Versalink 327W because they are the newest models and support up to ADSL2+.

The Westell 6100s will be Model Number: B90-610030-06 or C90-610030-06 or E90-610030-06.

The Westell Versalink 327W will be Model Number: C90-327W30-06 or D90-327W30-06.

If you get a Netopia you want a 2241N or a 3347NWG as these are the latest models and they support up to ADSL2+, the Netopia 3347NWG also has a built 4 port ethernet switch and a 802.11 B/G access point that supports up to WPA2 encryption.

The Netopia 2241N will be Model Number: 2241N-006.

The Netopia 3347NWG will be Model Number: 3347NWG-006.

If would highly recommend one of the Netopias as they are very good modems.

If you are worried about BellSouth Residential Help Desk support than I would get the Netopia 2241n-006, if you need to hook up more than one computer you can always get a inexpensive ethernet switch or a wireless access point with a built in ethernet switch. This modem is also very easy to setup.

If it were me, I would get the Netopia 3347NWG-006 modem as it can do it all in one package. It is easy to setup for general use, but if you want to do some advanced things with it, it is a little bit harder to setup.

The Netopia 3347NWG-006 really is better than sliced bread.

Also if you are a heavy Peer to Peer user or Bit Torrent user definitely get a Netopia 3347NWG-006 as they work really well and don't choke on themselves when under the heavy load of hundreds of connections. On a well seeded torrent I can max out my 6.0 connection at 700 Plus KB/s with hundreds of connections and the Netopia 3347-006 doesn't break a sweat. The Netopia 2241-006 may also be good at this, but I have not tested it yet.

The Westell 6100 will puke on torrents under the same conditions unless you configure you torrent client to work around the Westell 6100's handicap, then it to will max out your connection but it takes a long time to find your sweet spot on the Westell 6100.

Also what people are saying about the Westell 6100 being scared of thunder storms is true, but then again so am I.

I will check Ebay to see whats out there for you.

Edit: Well I see you already bought a modem. That is what I get for writing a novel and eating breakfast before writing the last chapter and publishing it.

Weird Stuff Netopia 3347NWG-006
I checked Ebay and had no luck on a Netopia 3347NWG-006, I checked completed auctions and one guy stole a new in box one for $21.00 and another guy stole a new in box Netopia 2241N-006 for $8.50, but that won't help you.

I found a Netopia 3347NWG-006 at some website called Weird Stuff, I never heard of them but that don't mean nothing.

It seems to be used, what they call a "pull", probably only comes with the modem and power adapter, that's all you need really if you already have DSL than you should have a ethernet cable and a dsl phone cable and dsl filters.

It's only $19.95, so you roll the dice and takes your chances, if it a dud you ain't out but twenty something, if it's a good one you got a deal.

»www.weirdstuff.com/cgi-b ··· m/11519#

Edit: Before you jump into a Netopia 3347NWG-006 you might want to check out Netopia's webpage on the 3347NWG-006 and read the manual, it's 351 pages long!!!

Netopia Model 3347NWG-006 Wireless ADSL Gateway
Tech Notes and Quick Guides.

»www.netopia.com/support/ ··· 006.html

Netopia 3300 Series ADSL Gateway Reference Guide.

»www.netopia.com/equipmen ··· Clsc.pdf

There is a reason why BellSouth Residential Help Desk does not support the Netopia 3347NWG-006 for Residential Customers. Also read that ATT Southeast/BellSouth FAQ's on the Netopias and you will see that there is not much info about them.

That being said if all you want to do is hook up a couple of wired and wireless computers and surf the net, check emails, download some stuff and play games it's not that hard. I have two wired computers, a wireless laptop, a wireless desktop, a wired Xbox 360 and wired Windows Home Server and it was no big deal.

Dude if you can't afford the 75 Bellsouth wants for a modem, how the f*ck do you plan on paying the monthly bill. My monthly bill is close to 100 with 6.0 and a standard telephone line.
The 75 dollars is even reimbursed to you on your first bill with new service.

We've gave you several solutions and you keep saying, "well if anyone knows of a good deal, let me know".
Free is as good as your going to get.

Have your mom call Bellsouth and tell them that she'd like to get Bellsouth for her son , and quit wasting OUR time.

Otherwise look for it your da*mn self.
