uverse FTTP HD stream limitations?

I have yet to hear anyone here chime in saying that they're on FTTP and getting UVERSE video services. However, I KNOW those people exist.
Does anyone here have any knowledge on the limitations of the FTTP UVERSE? Are they still limiting FTTP users to 1 HD stream, even though there is MORE than adequate bandwidth for 4, 5, 6 or more?
It looks like my FTTP CO is going over to the UVERSE IP network in August. Video will probably follow soon after. I just don't want to switch to UVERSE if I'm going to be stuck with 1 HD stream, when I use 2 all the time on Dish Network (1 OTA, 1 through Dish...)
My house will soon have 3 HDTVs in it due to a few techno-geeks moving in. I want to be able to get HD to all of the TVs at the same time.

I WANT to believe AT&T will offer this over their FTTP platform, but something tells me I'm going to be disappointed. Can anyone offer input?

In areas where UVERSE is going in here in OKC, Cox is planning a defensive deal. They're planning on offering VERY competitive rates on 12/1 internet/Digital cable in UVERSE areas. That's 2x the download speed that's currently offered on my FTTP, and the same upload (and there's powerboost...) I'd HATE to have to go to Cox, but if AT&T can't deliver what every other provider can, I might just have to.

Good questions. Your confident you `KNOW` ... but I'm not so confident. I've never heard of anyone on FTTP being on the UVERSE network.

Now if you want my cinical guess based on my experience with AT&T.... you won't get switched to IP unless you sign up for UVERSE and it'll still be 6MB and 1 HD since they don't seem to ever differentiate product offering based on the underlying transport.

I'm just happy that I'm not on a contract anymore cause when UVERSE does suddenly roll out to Austin, Time Warner will bump their speed and lower their prices. Then it's going to be ADIOS AT&T.

Really a shame.... I thought getting a house with FTTP would finally cure me of my FiOS envy.... guess not.

Quite a few people on Uverseusers.com have said they have successfully ordered U-verse on their FTTP connection.

Well, did they say if they got anything outside the normal u-Verse service, ie 1 HD stream? Do their modems show faster "sync" speeds. or does it look like the FTTN profile in every way?

I really don't know, I never asked, nor did they mention it.

I see over there where MarkyD has asked repeatedly but no one has actually answered his question.

There was a trial in San Antone where at&t took a house in a FTTP setting and successfully had over 10 HD streams going at a time. I doubt they will ever offer anything close to that, but it did work.

I just went back, and he has only asked the question maybe 3 times max. I started a thread asking if anybody successfully was running U-verse in a FTTP community here in Houston, at first, nobody responded. Then after a few weeks, people started responding, but no mention of HD streams or sync speed.

Re: uverse FTTP HD stream limitations?

To make you happy, I have made a new thread asking people about these very questions, we shall see what happens.

Truthfully I was more interested by a different thread where someone mentioned of a very limited FTTP trial where they were testing FIoS `like` speeds.

I have no confidence in U-Verse Video so I signed up for 2 years of DirecTV. ( I have 3 HDTV's and I have a HD DVR on every one of them ) .... I'm very interested in a 15/2 like profile on my internet.

If you also noted in the OP: "Note: This is different than u-verse"...

I respect your opinions, as we are all entitled to our own. If you don't like U-verse, you don't have to.

Note the OP?? I know exactly what Mark is talking about, him and I have the exact same thing and we've messaged each other frequently about where it currently is and where it is going.

I don't like U-Verse Video as it currently stands. I do however want the U-Verse Internet component to dump the ATM/PPPoE overhead and hopefully get a higher speed profile.

I was referring to the OP on the "FiOS like speeds" thread on uverseusers, not here. I completely understand the argument being made, and I don't understand why they put new FTTP technology on old encap schemes.

I don't understand either. In fact, I'm practically crying over here right now. I'm remote controlling a server that I have in a data center and I just downloaded the .NET 2.0 SDK ( 354MB ) in 1 minute and 21 seconds... over 4MB/sec.

I have FTTP and I get less then 1/10th of that speed.

Why does AT&T do any of the stupid things they do?

thanks for everyone's replies. I really want an answer to this, but I'm not sure anyone has the answer. AT&T sure as hell doesn't know. Hell, when I called them they didn't even think that FTTP UVERSE existed.

OK, I just spoke with UVERSE department. The rep informed me that Oklahoma was not slated to get UVERSE any time soon, and we all know that's not true (OKC was on the leaked list of launch dates as Aug 6th...and I have it on a good source that is accurate.)He also said that FTTP UVERSE installations also have the 1 HD stream limitation. He did not expect that to change until the FTTN UVERSE customers get that change, sometime next year.

My guess is AT&T simply doesn't want to market FTTP as `Better` since that would wake up the majority of their FTTN customers. They just quitely market it as one single product even though the technology and capabilities are radically different.

FTTP with 1 HD, 1 DVR and 6MB speed.... someone just shoot me.

yeah. If that's how it rolls out in my FTTP area, I'm dropping all my AT&T/Dish Network services and going to Cox, who is offering just about the same deal. I have a Tivo Series 3 that I'll use to bypass the crappy Scientific Atlanta DVR.
