@rogers.com | Should I Make The Switch To TekSevvy
Hi, I live in Mississauga and had really bad experience with Sympatico high speed, slow downs, too far from the network building. So I was wondering if Teksevvy would be the same.
Thanks |

| reply to JimJimmy I called them and they said that I would still get the same speeds/quality as Sympatico, but I just wanted to make sure if others managed to get their line better with TekSavvy...
Thanks again, if you can please reply to my other thread in the Canadian Broadband Section regarding a new internet connection. |

Thanks again, if you can please reply to my other thread in the Canadian Broadband Section regarding a new internet connection. This is a grey area as in some case, such as, if the line wasn't all that great or if it required some tweaking, then we could for sure help! If all has been attempted and we can't move you over to a closer CO, etc... then yeah, we won't be able to change things.
....in many cases though, we've been able to increase things at least a little.

| reply to JimJimmy A few months ago my business was called by bell, to "attempt" to get my to switch to their service. Anyways, in the end i found out some interesting information for the lady that called me. Apparently there are areas in ontario where Bell can only offer 1meg service, where as other providers they lease too can provide 3meg and up of service. By the end of that call it turned out that my house can only get 1meg service "from them" according to their systems, even though TekSavvy can provide me with 5meg service. ^^ |

| reply to JimJimmy Well like others have said, If your line is very bad and everything has been tried then moving to teksavvy wont help.
But chances are bell did not do everything they could of (since their tech supports guys don't know much, Level 1)
Now one of the benefits is if you chance over to Teksavvy is its Cheaper then Bell, So even if you see no improvement you are at least saving $$$. But also if you buy a new modem from teksavvy 'SpeedTouch 516" which is a Very good DSL modem it can improve your line.
For example my old modem I could only get 3mb connection with it. As soon as I bought this modem I was able to get 5mb no problem and I could even go up to 7mb since now my line can handle it.
So either way you look at it, you win everytime -- Computer: AMD AthlonXP 2800, 1GB, Seagate 500gb 7200rpm 16mb cache, ati All-In-Wonder X800 XT, 5mb DSL

| reply to JimJimmy Thanks for replying guys. Well I think I'll try TekSavvy and see how it goes. For the most part, bell is ****ing retarded, every time I called regarding the issue, I got different answers. My line is corrupt, I'm too far from the Network, etc. But like you said vipor, in my other thread that they may have installed the Remote(?) in my area. Another thing, how is the performance in online games such as the ping. Is it as same as cable or cable internet pings better online. Thanks guys. Lastly, the modem that they rent is it the speedtouch 516? thanks.. |

4 edits | I switched today. I'm out of town but it's about 5 business days before Sympatico drops my line so I called in to make sure I have uninterrupted service. Was easy... hardly any wait and Dave (think that was his name) who I just spoke with was really pleasant and super polite.
Can't wait to get home and switch my login info and be done with it!
I switched because of three reasons:
1. The tech support provided at DSL reports and the pleasant people on the phone.
My DSL service is stable with Sympatico for the most part, but when it wasn't the answer from tech support was to "call apple" because my computer must have had a virus on it.... even though the dsl light lost sync every 5 minutes for 40 minutes on the phone with the guy.
2. Good price / no contract.
This point explains itsself.
3. The Canadian operation / tech support aspect.

| reply to getaclue so?
he asked a question, I answered.........
I think customer support is bar none the best indicator of whether to switch or not, seeing as how with rogers, I had kick ass speeds except for torrents and piss poor support, now i have pretty middle of the road speeds but just plain amazing support, I am perfectly happy with my choice. -- I hate rogers and their CRAP tech. support... But, MAJOR kudos to the TekSavvy team!
