| anyone had this issue with their DVR and onDemand?
I have a dvr box and a lot of times when I try to fire up a show from showtime on-demand its a black screen and gives a request error if I try to pause|play|ff|rewind. When it happens it gives a CM-FF error I believe. I've called insight on it one time and they had me reset the box (which fixed it) but its happening again. When it starts happening it does it to my entire onDemand. I really don't want to have to reset the box every day or whatever.
any thoughts? anyone have the same experience with this? |

| reply to Meeble I've found if I leave my DVR on all the time I have problems where when I try to pause a show it will pause but I can't resume, fast forward or rewind. It just freezes. I have to change the channel and go back to it and it happens everytime I pause until I reset the box. Turning the DVR off every night has seemed to help. -- Thank you for keeping this a work-free environment! |

| reply to Meeble I did have a problem trying to watch a pay-per-view movie once. After ordering the channel directly through the box, it simply refused to show. I called the support number, and they said it looked like my order "went partially through", whatever that meant. They recommended I unplug the box, plug it back in, wait 10 minutes, then try it again. When the movie was on again, I ordered it. I was able to watch it for about 30 minutes, then it stopped (movie was no where near done).
Ever since then, I've not tried a PPV movie - too unreliable. I do get the movie channels, so if I wait a little bit I can watch them for no extra charge then.
I do have other issues with the DVR (this is the dual tuner HD model btw - 6416 I think is the model)...
- When taking unit out of standby, it defaults to channel 1; it forgets what channel I was on. My Dish DVR used to remember the current and previous channel no problem.
- When first taking out of standby, you have to enter the channel you want really fast on the remote, before the unit enters a "zombie state" where it does not recognize any remote button presses for about 15 seconds. After that, it is fine. Not a show stopper, but annoying.
- Sometimes the unit doesn't respond to channel up/down right away. Thinking I've not hit the button correctly, I hit it one or more times. In reality, I've just buffered all those button presses, and it eventually changes the channel several times.
- Occasionally, the DVR all of a sudden reports it is 100% full but in reality it is not. It then refuses to record anything. Deleting just a 1/2 hour program fixes it, and it then reports the correct (usually substantially lower) percentage...43% for example (no way a 1/2 hour show, even in HD should take up 57% of the HD). The trigger seems to be possibly caused by interrupting a recording (stopping it part way through show).
I really hope a good cable card/HDTV tuner card combo comes out for the PC (without having to actually buy a new PC). That way I can do something like a media center PC that is hopefully a better performer than this thing.
Oh, for those of you wondering, the reason why I don't use Dish any more (even though I like their DVR much better), is they don't provide the Cincinnati locals in HD. |
