[Xtreme] DSL Connection Drops Throughout The Day

ever since the takeover of Bellsouth by AT&T, my DSL extreme has been dropping and restarting everyday. ill have a steady connection during some parts of the day, and then during other parts of the day my connection will stay on for 5 minutes, go down for 5, up for five, down for 5. it is really bugging me.

I've called Bellsouth / AT&T at least 20 times. I've requested a tech who never came. they even sent me a new free modem. nothing. i want a tech to come visit my home box because when i open it i can see the the wires look a little corroded. i could take a picture and show you what i mean. but really, could the wires really go bad instantly one day?

anyone else having problems in the South Florida area with their bellsouth / AT&T dsl and know what my problem may be?

::: EDIT :::

i used the line quality tool to test my line connection and these are the results

Yes. It's bad here in Macon, Ga for me. We had a storm here and lots of noise on the line. The phone dial tone would work sporadically. DSL wouldn't sync. I called AT&T repair on my cell and finally got a live operator. She tested the line and said there were problems. I love this part. And then they read (paraphrasing) if an AT&T technician has to come to your home or in your house to fix something, there will be a charge and a chance that from that, one of your children will be unable to attend college.

LOL (My DSL lost sync while trying to post this. I'll try again.)

see the thing is, my problem has nothing to do with storms as i have read some people are having. clear days, wet days, cloudy days, hot days....it doesn't matter. the internet still only works a good 25% of the day.....and like i said before, this is a new thing. this never use to happen. the time frame this all started is when AT&T started to re brand everything down here

Can you please post your modem line information and have you tryed a home run to the nid to your cpe, also do you have filters installed on all outlets. This will allow us to help you

I myself had the same problem for a few months. I can't exactly give you any help per say , but i might suggest finding a new ISP. They still to this day (3 motnths from last contact with AT&T) cant answer why i have a huge log of constant dsyncs. Techs have visited, I have gone throught 4 CSRs, and even paid for their newest modem. It still happens. I myself am researching many of the companies in South FL to see which one has a decent price and decent track record. AT&Ts doesn't have any answers. This problem didnt happen a year ago. I've had DSL from Bell for over 6 years.

I have the ProLine Westell modem, model number C90-610030-06

i do not have a phone in my home, so i don't have any filters plugged in. i have however tried putting filters in every plug regardless of this fact, but it did nothing for me.

also, i have not tried a home run to the nid to my cpe. could you explain this to me a little more?

Here is the most recent connection log for my modem. ill post one later when modem is acting up more. these past couple hours it has been behaving.

I called the repair number yesterday about 7 PM and by 8:30 AM everything was working. About 7:45 AM today my phone and DSL went down for about 45 minutes. When it came back up it was good to go.The line had cleared of noise and the DSL has been solid as a rock all day.

To check your line stats at the nid please follow the following directions.

Located at: »AT&T Southeast Forum FAQ »How to check modem stats, synch rates & speeds from test jack at the NID.

Then repost the stats. if your stats have not improved their is a issue on the at&t side of things and it will be to call fast access support to have a tech dispatched to look at your lines.

If your inside wiring is to blame you risk a fee to have it repaired by at&t so even tho you don't have any phones connected you may still have inside wiring issues.

You are also on interleaved mode which will increase ping times to around 40ms to your first hop if your line stats improve this will automatically be removed and switched to fast path or max sync

What happened to if it's at your house but outside there is no charge? They have to come to your house to see if your outside box is bad.

I always thought it was anything inside your house. But, they have to drive to my house to get here. I hope that's the case. I have a neighbor who works for AT&T so every night when he drives home I guess they could charge me.

The dividing line is the demarcation/NID be it in your home, outside of your home or on a pole adjacent to your home.

If you cannot fix it with a buttset and some beanies you ain't a technician.
