Re: Problem upgrading 4200 series switch

Posting here at DSLR may have once again made me notice my mistake. I think I need to be using the s423_00.bin file for the older switch. I'll try it when I can after hours and report back.

I have 2 3Com 4200 series switches on my network. I recently had to replace one. So, I have the new one that is running software version 3.00 (hardware version 04.01.01). And the old once which is running software version 2.03 (hardware version 01.01.00). All this is verified in the above attachment.

The manual and the web-based interface tells me that both need to be running the same version of software, so I try to upgrade them using the recommended TFTP method.

The recent unit doesn't upgrade, because it doesn't need to, and the message in the web-based interface says this. The older unit doesn't upgrade and the error that is returned is: "failed because of an incompatible image". Again, see the attachment above.

Is this because the hardware version doesn't support this software version? Or something else?

Any ideas/help/etc would be greatly appreciated.
