binary newsgroup speed cap

I'm curious about the 120k limit that seems to be in place on the binary newsgroups. As I understand it the servers would be located locally at Teksavvy and would not incur any external bandwidth costs to them when I'm downloading. So why the cap? I'm tending to use BT more these days as it often brings me 400-500K/s.

I would happily stick to the groups and save y'all some money if the speeds were roughly on par. Is there another factor here that I'm not aware of?

It's not located at Teksavvy. Teksavvy outsources usenet services to Usenetserver (do a tracert on news2.teksavvy.com and you'll see). And if you were to buy directly from UNS, it costs you something like $15/month I believe (but it is uncapped).

The $4/month static IP/binaries service is basically offsets some of the costs that Teksavvy incurs. You're essentially getting usenet for a quarter of the price but if it was unlimited speeds, then there's no way Teksavvy could sustain it. So the 1mbps restriction is necessary.

If you want faster usenet services then you should buy from Giganews or UNS themselves.

Do a search on newsgroups in the Teksavvy forum and you should find out more about how to get it from Teksavvy.

If you're asking about what newsgroups/usenet is in general, go to the filesharing software section on the DSLR forums and look in the FAQs.

Two nice sites you download a file like BT and click on it and away your file goes.

I use this program for newsgroups.

Has a BT like lay-out so it was simple to use. The other ones I looked at did shit I cared nothing about like email and were pay too.

More speed would be cool but unlike BT I'm not worried about a file dying after a day or two. Also not having to upload back what you downloaded rocks the socks.

You know what I wish TekSavvy gave you the option of upgrading your News Group settings for an additional monthly amount maybe like an additional $5 can give me a 3Mbps usenet service. I'm begging for this service, I swear I won't touch BT anymore .

Unfortunately it's a global setting....
