 | [TIME WARNER] New Guide and new DVR boxes? I was checking TWC web site to see if there was something new and it was.
It seems that TWC is rolling out a new TV guide.
I reset my DVR box but it still shows the same Passport tv guide. I also read about TWC rolling out new Motorola DVR boxes.
Does anyone know when the new guide is gonna be release? |

RombusPremium join:2007-04-11 Columbus, OH | Yes, TWC has launched a new guide with the new OCAP mandates. The new guide is called ODN (OCAP Digital Navigator) and is being used on the NEW OCAP Boxes. There is also MDN (Mystro Digital Navigator) which is going to be near exact the same as ODN But is being deployed on the "Legacy" (Non OCAP) Boxes out in the field.
ODN Is already avalible with the new OCAP Boxes, and MDN rollout is different by division, i know locally they are saying 4th quarter.
The new guides will allow TWC to roll out new features, like CallerID on TV for digital phone customers., and Start Over.
Its important to note that chances are you wont be able to walk into the local office and get the new boxes without sufficient reason. But by the end of the year that shouldn't be an issue since ODN and MDN are essentially the same. |

 | I went today to a TWC center to ask about the new boxes and the costumer service representative told me that I could bring my old boxes to switch them for the new ones if I wanted.
The only problem that I had was that I have 3 HD DVR(SA 8300) and TWC doesn't have the new HD DVR(Motorola DCH6016) available yet.
TWC is rolling out new Samsung STB boxes in NYC. The new guide comes with these new boxes installed already.
I hope that TWC gets the new Motorola HD DVR here in NYC.

I hope that TWC gets the new Motorola HD DVR here in NYC. Why? Motorola DVRs suck, big time. SA boxes are much better. If your area is using SA boxes, then TWC will use the new SA Explorer 8300HDC for HD-DVRs. They aren't going to use Moto boxes in SA areas. |

| reply to NY11102 That new guide looks real colorful and nice. But I've heard nothing but problems about the Mystro Navigator over at AVSForums. Everyone says Passport is 100 times better. People hate the new guide so much that they are bringing it up at local township meetings. |

We use SARA in TW Rochester and Caller ID on TV has been avalable since November 2995.

People hate the new guide so much that they are bringing it up at local township meetings. I can confirm the problems with this. I have a SA Explorer 8300HDC and an older SA box. The 8300 still has Passport and it works fine. The older SA box they "upgraded" to the Mystro Navigator and it is absolute crap.
From an aesthetic perspective, the colors are too bright for me, the font size is too large. It's like using a computer at 640x480; you just don't see enough on one screen. But all of that is minor compared to the functionality or lack there of. It's incredibly slow and unstable. Half the time the guide doesn't show up and only a reboot will bring it back. It will randomly reboot. Channel changes are very slow compared to the old system. It seems to lag through executing commands from the remote. It just plain sucks. If they start screwing around with my 8300, I'll drop the service and go to satellite. -- "Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom; it is the arguments of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves." | reply to Alakar Thanks for the information Alakar. I don't have TWC, but I've read many complaints about the new guide. It's hard for me to gauge the font sizes, color, speed and features since I can only go by screenshots posted on the web.
Hopefully with all the complaints they are receiving, they get on the ball and fix it for you guys.
If you were to pick one guide for your cable what would you pick? Tivo S3, I-Guide, Microsoft Guide, Verizon IMG Guide, SARA, Passport, or the new Time Warner guide?
What is the difference between ODN and MDN? Do they look virtually the same? Is it just the underlying OCAP stack? |

Is it just the underlying OCAP stack? From what i understand They are in all aspects nearly the same. ODN runs on OCAP boxes, MDN runs on Legacy boxes. The only difference that most people will see between the two is going to be a "equipment Options" Like selection in the options menu to control hardware settings |

1 edit | reply to NY11102 FYI... In the Triad NC (Greensboro/Burlington) market... We're SARA. I had @2 8300HD's that both had a problem w/ my interactive services not showing up (caller ID, start over, etc.). They had me bring my boxes into the local center for a swap. I walked out w/ 2 8300HDC boxes in ~ 5 minutes.
Got home and they're still loaded w/ SARA 1.90.x. When I called in to have the boxes activated, they transferred me to tier 2 so we could get my boxes quickly added to the "global list" (whatever that is) so they could test the interactive services.
While I was on the phone, I asked about ODN, Navigator, etc. and no one knew what I was talking about. Emailed them a link to the guide screenshots and it was the first time they'd seen it.
I've heard that ODN is in limited deployment in the Raleigh and Charlotte, NC market. But as usual, looks like the Triad/Greenboro market will be the donkey's tail.
