Re: [Wired] befsx41 1.52.15 still no problems with this fw version.. Where's Flogator?? |
|
 | As previously posted, Flogator is MIA on this one (1.52.15) so far. Is it possible Flogator is now a POW of the dummy and stupidity regime of Cisco/Linksys? If so, then he's being held captive and brain washed into brain-dead mode just like their firmware engineers :-0

It's Summer and I'm very busy at the office. You guys seem to have hammered that one pretty good already. I promise to get around this new firmware over the next week-end. You may expect something from me by then. |

 | Upgraded to 1.52.15 and all i can say so far is all is good. |

 | Jan! I feel for you Bro! However, I think you're beating and re-beating a dead horse on this one "fix the blocking by keyword and url logging problem".
After all of your postings to this forum, and all of your emails and phone calls to Cisco/Linksys about this problem, do you really still think they give a rats about this situation?
Again, with all the detailed discriptions you've given Cisco/Linksys of this problem, it is obviously beyond the capabilities of the meathead they have screwing around with the firmware to actually fix this problem and make it go away.

 | reply to Flogator Good to know you haven't defected over to the other side:-]
Until you get time to kick some 1.52.15 butt, I'll stick with 1.45.7 and play it safe. Again, thanks for the response and all your BEFSX41 outstanding test work. |

Obviously, They Don't!!!
However, If I didn't keep bringing it to their attention, they probably wouldn't think it was an issue to be concerned about...... "Nobody's complaining about it"
I do get some satisfaction on venting on the subject, which is about the only satisfaction I probably will get out of it......
The things that really bug me were the responses I'd get from communications over the years, Promising that the information would be forwarded.... They just forgot to tell me they were forwarding it to the bit bucket!!!
They deserve all the harassment they get from everyone -- It's obvious they don't care about us!!!

FlogatorPremium,MVM join:2003-01-19 Cantley, QC kudos:1 | reply to Flogator Alright, here is my take on firmware 1.52.15. I have flashed one of my BEFSX41 units with this firmware and let it run for 24h. Then I ran 80% of my usual tests. So far, I cannot tell the difference between this version and 1.52.10.
As some of you might have notice, I have been chasing an MSN/UPnP bug since firmware 1.52.0 (Oct 28 2004). At no big surprises, I am still suffering from this bug. That is THE reason why three of my units are still on 1.45.7. You guys cannot imagine how much efforts I have spent with Linksys in trying to get this issue fix. It drains energy and motivation.
Given Jan's interests in the blocking by keyword feature, I couldn't resist running two basic tests. What can I say? The BEFSX41 does block the URL by keyword and even inform us in the logs. However, as Jan pointed out, we have no !"/$% ideas which of our keywords were hit. No need to say I fully and totally understand his frustration.
Still, I am going to leave my test unit under a more rigorous test tonight and report my findings in the morning.
The only positive note I could find to say about this new firmware is the statement about the fix for the new DST. For a fix that should have come few months ago, it is still not too bad. Let's if this is really fixed once we hit the DST next year LOL. Let's hope we're still going to be here by then LOL.
In a way, I don't blame Linksys. With all of this new wireless and VoIP technology, it is very tempting to jump on another wagon before completing unfinished work. It is just unfortunate that faithful customers are sacrificed along the way.
I don't know how many BEFSX41 users are still out there. If we're still a decent gang, perhaps we should try to create our own 3rdParty firmware. The only issue is the BEFSX41 is natively running VxWorks which is a closed source operating system. However, I came across an article that described how to flash Linux on it. If there is sufficient interest, perhaps we could find the necessary help to make this dream come true. Feed back is mostly welcome . |

 | reply to PeB4 Flog... If something like you commented (3rd party code for SX41) comes about....... Mark me down as someone with interest in it!!! -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |

 | reply to PeB4 I'm amazed you guys are still running this piece of hardware. I gave up on it a long time ago! My parents are using it now since they don't need to do anything more complicated than light web browsing and email. |

 | reply to PeB4 Frankly, I'd love to see someone create a 3rd party firmware for this unit that would address the issues that exist, if for no other reason than to proove to Linksys that it could be done!!! -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |

 | reply to Flogator hi Flogator
let's do it and make some 3rdParty firmware just tell me how to flush Linux on it
I'm not a programmer but I'm half of an engineer so I probably could make some thing of it if some one can contribute just say

FlogatorPremium,MVM join:2003-01-19 Cantley, QC kudos:1 | Ok, in a fear to mix up the discussions between the on going testing of BEFSX41 firmware 1.52.15 and 3rdParty firmware, I am suggesting to fork this thread into two.
Please use this thread to pursuit BEFSX41 firmware 1.52.15 testing and discussions.
Please use the thread below for BEFSX41 3rdParty discussions.
»[Wired] Case Study: Can we get 3rdParty firmware for BEFSX41?

d0ug0 join:2003-04-04 Tampa, FL | reply to PeB4 Hi, I have been a long user of the 1.45.7 firmware untill i just recently noticed a problem with it and HTTPS sites. It seems that ceartan HTTPS sites like directv's bill payment site will not work with this firmware, you can enter your billing info, hit submit and you will get nowhere, the connection just times out. upgrading to 1.52.15 fixed this problem for me
However, onto the problems with 1.52.15 I have noticed 2 problems with this firmware. The 1st involves using the admin page from the WAN side. It seems that the router never finishes sending out the page. Every time that i try to goto the remote admin page right now, all that is loading is "[!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"]" I had to replace the normal html brackets with [] the forum would not allow them. I am viewing this by choosing View on the menu bar in IE, and then Source to view the html code that is loading. A couple days ago i noticed that it got a little farther down into the body of the HTML, but the result was still the same, it never finished sending out all of the HTML code.
The other problem i am noticing has to do with port fowarding. I use VNC to remote admin a machine behind the router. I have port 5900 fowarded though the router. I notice that if i connect to VNC and then hit cancel without entering a password, and then try to reconnect that i cannot reconnect without power cycling the router, or waiting something like 10 minutes for the connection to time out or something. When this happens is also appears to kill any other port fowarding that is going though the router, as i am unable to connect to a website that is hosted on a seperate machine from the machine with VNC.
I previously had no problems with remote admin of the router or VNC while using 1.45.7 |
