Re: 16mb / 2mb Status Update

That's pretty close to me. Interesting. Glad they upgraded your area. I really wish they'd post network stats like latency from area to area, how things are running, proposed roll-out time frames for new services, etc. with a disclaimer that it's not set in stone like I've said before. Would be great and if there are any network issues (on-net or peering) would be nice to see an honest status of how things are (marketing and status both).

OMG what a douche bag.

Emmanuel: At present, we still do not have internet speed higher than your current service which is the 10meg.

this is right after he just said it was available in my area. now my christmas is ruined.
Lol, while I feel your pain calling someone a "Douche" who just made a mistake is a little harsh!

Or they could not upgrade you and continue to charge you at the same rate until you say something. Charter's history would make this the best bet.
Very true, and there is already another post in this forum about that exact issue.

Do you ppl know if there's going to be price drop for the 10 meg since i'm not going to pay 69$ a month again for the 10 meg if i upgrade?
I'm currently using the 5 Meg and they say that it's not going to be upgraded to 10 meg automaticly so i would assume that 10 meg customers won't be upgraded to 16 meg either.
I've seen Charter do it both ways. If they upgrade everyone automatically, they can keep charging the same amount and most people would be none the wiser (as opposed to leaving everything alone and reducing your bill).

The only thing i've seen for sure is that everyone under 5M gets upgraded.
Well Charter has been promoting a special where you get 5 meg for $14.95 for 6 months or year or something. I doubt Charter is going to bump thsoe people up to 10 meg and still only charge them $15 a month. Though that would be great. I suspect those people would be staying at 5 meg.
My point was that for users like me that are paying 69.99 for the "GOLD" package which is currently 10/1, if they just upgrade me to 16/2, they can still charge me $69.99. Many people likely wouldn't notice and continue to pay. As opposed to just downgrading my bill to the "silver" package and lowering my bill.

Users that have package deals are usually not altered at all until their deal expires. They obviously aren't to give anything away for free. They are out to make as much money as possible, hence the auto upgrade to ensure I still pay $69.99 instead of $49.99.

but they just got that 10/1 here so im in for along haul unless i want to pay 300 a month and yes p2p sharing maxes out HD 2 ex 500`s to in 160`s just on one rig alone. Alaways looking for that extra gig for this and that. I C because of area im going to have to spend the bucks
You are part of the reason that our uplink sucks. A very small part but actions like yours will lead to restrictions on the service. You are in complete violation of the residential terms of service.

Go rent a server in a datacenter instead of creating problems for everyone else would ya..

It would be better if they had a place where users could go for news/updates based on area so that when things were even tentatively planned users would be aware of changes. All they'd have to do is throw a disclaimer up there saying it's not written in stone but is planned. That would save them lots of time from being asked all the time and money to not have their front line fielding repetative questions such as these (at least not as often as users become conditioned to checking online when possible/convenient). Pre-sales information for upgrades is pretty bad for all providers. They probably want to be sure not to promise anything until it's been delivered.

you just got someone who has probably been asked 20 million times so they just through out an answer. i have called at least twice each month and i always get either a stupid answer or sometimes they actually look into it. just depends on who you talk to. there not stupid there just well ignorant at times.

for the guy in the 29611 area code, were looking around the the end of Jan or Feb sometime. i called last month and the lady was real helpful and said that would be that's when it should be out. Just keep watching your bill or check there website for any news.

Re: 16mb / 2mb Status Update

These guys are such idiots.

I tried to do the online chat to see if the 16meg service is available in my area yet and they won't talk to me without my PIN. All I wanted to ask them was if the service was available yet. yes, or No.

I asked the lady, "what if I were a new customer looking to switch to charter, and I wanted to see what services were available at my address, would you be able to look it up then without a pin". She said, "yes, but you would have to order it online". Which I found odd since I was CHATTING through the "order here" box on the page for their HSI.

They should be able to say at least what services are available at a certain address, no? I'll have to wait 'till my bill gets here I guess.
