This has little to do with the US...

This will,as usual, be for the domestic market. The US business culture will simply not allow these advancements to migrate until every last penny has been milked from old technology. You'll be perpetually one to two generations behind and there is nothing the American consumer can do to change that. The best thing may be to not even read about about it and save yourself the frustration.
