1 edit | Crawler Web Security Guard
I'm curious about folks thought's on Crawler's Web Security Guard. I started using Spyware Terminator again b/c of the real time shield and user-friendly price (zippo). This time when I installed it, it gave the option (it didn't force it down my throat) for this browser add-on that reads and rates upcoming sites. Every so often it'll give a warning message about a site being a certain level threat. If you click on the "read about" or "info" link, you find all these user inputs that in the aggregate, give the site its rating. Reading through can be interesting, cause you'll usually find the sites safe but either it was a nasty back in the day, or someone jut didn't like the site. I'm just wondering if its a reliable feature or if I should just get rid of it. Of course the Terminator itself seems to be a really good aggressive program, but has bogged down on me a few times before and I had to get rid of fit. Some people think its a negative that a former spyware maker is in the security business now, but I say, who better to thwart a nasty, then a former nasty maker, ennit? So, is the Crawler Web Security Guard trust able, or have you jettisoned it, or have you continued to have terminator issues all together? Thanx, Penewah.
Wow, guess its newer than I thought: »www.download.com/Web-Security-Gu···277.html |

| reply to penawab2007 I opted to not install the service, but I'm sure that it's just as good as SWT.

"Note on SpywareTerminator: We originally listed Spyware Terminator on this page out of concerns that Crawler, the company behind the product, had established connections with IBIS, a well known adware distributor responsible for such adware programs as Wintools, Websearch, & Huntbar. Although we found no problems in our initial testing with Spyware Terminator, and while the vendor itself announced that it was exiting the adware business (1), we decided out of caution to impose a three month probation period before we would consider re-testing and, if warranted, de-listing the the product from the Rogue/Suspect list. During that three month probation period we monitored the behavior of IBIS and Crawler. At the end of the three month probation period we re-tested Spyware Terminator, again finding no problems serious enough to justify listing the program"
As with any program, YMMV. -- What else would you do? -- There is hope! |
