We're going with Comcast's triple play, $102/month for one year. We already have cable and internet so this is only a few bucks extra. They are installing on Friday afternoon with a temporary number and will try to port. What they don't advertise is that the voice service requires a new combination cable modem & phone interface that you have to rent for $3/month. Plus I had just bought a cable modem last year, though at $20 after rebates it is paid for. Verizon wouldn't install until the old number was ported. But they are running fiber in the area so in one year when Comcast raises the rates I can threaten or just switch to FIOS. Since our cell minutes are now used up for the month, I installed and signed up for outgoing calls with Gizmo Project www.gizmoproject.com for $0.019/minute. It is rated well in comparison with Skype. It isn't perfect but no issues installing and running, plus it will be a good backup when the phone is tied up. My wife was able to use it easily following my cryptic instructions. |

| reply to jduffy That's all I wanted to know, thank you jduffy. I'm glad I didn't have the 2 bills to dump into sunrocket. I'm still paying off Nextel, holey crap, $500 for one month from $118 a month. Man, ya go over by a few minutes.
anyway, I need a good recommendation on another voip service, fast. |

As for this all being nothing more than popular opinion, you can read all the news reports and statements from the company conducting the liquidation.
This factual stuff can be found at the NYT website, some television station reports in Missouri where CrashRocket had a call center, and quotes from other VOIP providers saying they turned down buying the company. The news is out there, you do have to search. -- Atheists swear there is no Heaven, but pray there isn't a Hell. |

2 edits | reply to ThatsAllFolks I am not sure if this has been mentioned before or not, but aren't there some federal guidelines for bankruptcy of these kinds of services? I know of a lot of people who have sunrocket for their only phone service, god forbid an emergency and you have to call for 911 for fire etc. and your phone is dead. not because of a temporary problem but because the company went belly up. It would be like a company who provides electricity and closes shop in the middle of summer, leaving hundreds of people without AC etc. I think the execs of sunrocket should/would be responsible for such a thing happening. It is not like this just came up on their last financial papers. When you keep loosing money and work on a collect first then give service type of system, and the whole idea of your company running is based on new customers it is bound for failure (i think this falls under a pyramid scheme system). The thing that pisses me off is that they billed me for my international calls and didn't credit me the 3 dollars. insult to injury...... I can only predict a house fire, and no working phone thanks to sunrocket belly up, and one or more of their execs headed for jail. If they do close up shop for good, I am more irritated with the way they did it. I can only imagine the mess with number porting etc. sluri |
