1 edit | reply to tmj Re: Credit Card ChargeBack Success
I just got off the phone with Chase (Business) VISA and AmExp Business Platinum. SR had billed my two remaining accounts on June 5 for $214.11 Annual Plan renewals, one with VISA and the other with AmExp.
The CSRs for both companies were pleasant beyond my expectations. They were both extremely interested to hear my synopsis of events regarding SR's sudden demise --- and one even read the New York Times article on the internet as we were speaking.
Each CSR assured me that the ChargeBack was entered --- and I would not need paper documentation since they realized that they would not be able to contact SR by phone.
Surprisingly (not really!), the AmExp CSR informed me that SR had entered an additional charge of $214.11 on July 5 --- apparently for an account I had cancelled two months earlier. That amount will be charged back as well. |

| Is there someone who has just signed up for the service with SR in the last 1-2 months or so? I signed up for mine in late May for the 1 year plan. Is there anything I should do to get the pro-rated charges back? I might be signing up for my cable provider's phone service since I no longer trust those other VoIP companies (Vonage, ViaTalk, etc), unless I should. |

Is there anything I should do to get the pro-rated charges back? Read the recent posts, including mine which is three up from yours. You generally have 60 to 90 days to dispute the charge by telephone to your CC company without the need for paper documentation. Just explain that you prepaid for one year of service but the company folded today without any warning. When the CSR asks if you have used the service (meaning should she prorate the charge) explain that this was a One Year in advance payment and specifically state: "I did not run up any additional charges such as long distance or international calls." That will likely get you a full refund. |

| With the Citibank CC I have, the rep just asked the amount, did I try to contact SR, and that the conditional credit will be on my account in 2-3 business days. I actually went through a billing dispute with SR last year , so maybe they know the deal with the company.
I'll be keeping the paperwork on standby though. |

Anyone have any ideas on how I can push it?
Thanks. |

| I also have a starwood amex...buyer protection doesn't work...they have 90 days purchase protection -- I started April 2 (ugh!!).
I emailed customer service, they opened a case for me...
Basically, if you're a "good customer' they may do something for you...

I did try calling to dispute the charges, but was told it was outside of the dispute timeframe. |

| reply to N9MD I was told by chase the normal limit was 90 days, and it gets "more complicated" after that. But, once I spoke with the dispute department, she was very helpful and didn't have a problem at all. I would be VERY surprised at AMEX if they didn't do anything for you. Please let me know if thats what it comes to, I'm interesting in hearing how it turns out. Chase refunded $183 of my charge. Very friendly, no hard time at all. |
