Does anyone know the technical capabilities of these cable boxes? Specifically, will they be able to tune in HD channels and output the video for them via analog RF Channel 3/4? |

Generally, the DCH boxes are pretty much the same as their DCT counterparts in terms of operation. |

So they can only tune in (what?) 480i digital channels and analog channels? |

| No, the DCT-700s do not tune Hd channels. You will just get a black picture. The replacement for them are the DCH-100s for ADS areas and DCH-200s for analog systems. I haven't seen one of them in action yet, but if I had to guess, they more than likely won't tune HD channels either. |

| reply to bicker Yeah it sucks they don't down convert. It's just a black screen and no audio. Heck the DCT-2000 series at least had audio, but it was still a black screen.
You don't get any messages regarding authorization errors or "Channel will be available shortly", its just black. It's kind of like it's authorized and receiving signal but the decoder chip has no idea what to do. It's real annoying, because I have a DCT-700 in the bedroom, but I would prefer to watch the late night shows in letterbox on the HD counterparts, or have the capability to watch Discovery HD Theater or MOJO... even though the TV is not HD.
But for as little use as the Bedroom TV gets, I'm not springing for a cost extra HD Box, plus the small size of the DCT-700 works great in that area. |
