Re: Versalink 327w sensitive to lightning like Westell 6100?

like i have mentioned before in other threads.
My 6100 does not go out in any Lightning/Thunderstorms.

We get our fair share of storms here and my modems stays up and working.

Where do people get that the 6100's are bad in thunderstorms?

I'm not exactly sure. My guess? Westell modems just don't like me. =( I have 2 6100's. Both just as faulty when thunder is present. Can't figure it out at all.

Maybe it is something with your line.

Don't think so. Have had a tech inspect my line twice. Removed a bridged tap, replaced my drop, and fixed some grounding. Even installed a DSL splitter. No dice. =( Not to mention I had this same problem when I was living elsewhere, with the same modem. I say I don't think it's my line because my old, clunky 2 Wire even manages to hold sync when there's a severe storm in the area.

The Westell 6100 has trouble holding sync during EMI. If your line stats are marginal the problem is more noticable. I have a friend who has good line ATTN and S/N ratios and he does not have the problems I had with the Westell 6100. I have an ATTN around 55 and S/N ratio of 12. During a distant storm (20 miles away) I would lose sync. The Netopia 2241N does not have any problems holding sync till the storm is close and by that time you should turn everything off and unplug it.

I've never used the Versalink model(s) so I can't jugde how they would do. Sorry.

Well, I should count myself lucky then, huh?

Maybe it is a simple bonding issue. My brother lives in Daytona and that area is considered the lightning capital of the US, and he doesn't have issues. Of course your line is on the very edge of service to begin with so you would not have any margin when the storms get close.
