I hope everyone that thinks about moving over to Packet8 reads its fine print. This appears to apply even when you have a monthly service plan, not just the annual plan once you get past the first 30 days.
From Packet8's TOS at »www.packet8.net/terms/residential.aspx (Emphasis added)
5.8. DISCONNECTION FEES. Subsequent to the expiration of the Trial Period, if an End User terminates fax or voice Services within twelve (12) months of the initial purchase of the Services, 8x8 shall charge a Disconnection Fee of fifty nine dollars and ninety nine cents ($59.99). If an End User of Softalk based PSTN Plans terminates within twelve (12) months of the initial purchase of the Services, 8x8 shall charge a Disconnection Fee of nine dollars and ninety nine cents ($9.99). If an End User of video Services terminates video Services within twelve (12) months of the initial purchase of the Services, 8x8 shall charge a Disconnection Fee of one hundred ninety nine dollars and ninety nine cents ($199.99). If End User purchased video Services between October 1, 2006 and January 25, 2007, the ninety nine dollars and ninety nine cents ($99.00) Disconnection Fee and twelve (12) month term shall apply. If an End User terminates Services within twelve (12) months of the initial purchase of any Uniden Whole House Phone System, 8x8 shall charge a Disconnection Fee of ninety nine dollars and ninety nine cents ($99.99). The Disconnection Fee shall be waived after End User completes twelve (12) months of consecutive service. If End User purchased video Services between April 14, 2005 and September 30, 2006, the $299.00 Disconnection Fee and twenty four (24) month term shall apply. Disconnection Fees shall be billed to End User's Credit Card when End User notifies 8x8 of the cancellation of the Services. Disconnection Fees do not apply to Softalk Basic accounts. From time to time, 8x8 may sponsor promotional limited-time offers that provide a rebate on Equipment. An additional Disconnection Fee may apply to these offers and End User should review the terms of such offers. Submission of a rebate form, whether by US mail or on-line, represents agreement with the terms and conditions of such offer, including a higher Disconnection Fee, if applicable. |

| reply to 10414459 Yuck! P8 was the 1st VOIP service I tried. No thank you-Never again! I just signed up for VT over the weekend (just in time!). My other 1/2 has had it here in the office for a year with no problems. My line is still alive in Cincinnati, but VM is gone. Got all invoices/account management pages printed to PDF for porting numbers over to VT. Hope VT ports as fast as possible to avoid dead line. |

FINALLY, AP has come out with the story, 5 Days after BBR knew what was happening!
No mention of the AOL pigeons that raped the company, AP puts the blames on slower growth than the other VOIP companies |

It's just that some bury the cost in their fee while others itemize it. Maybe Sunrocket didn't charge for 911 but look where they are now. I was unclear, sorry. It looks like they charge $24 more a year than ViaTalk, despite advertising the same price...screw that. |

quote: Enhanced 911 Packet8 "Enhanced" 911 (E911), a government mandated service, automatically routes calls and computer-based "screen pops" of caller information to emergency personnel at local Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs). Because Packet8's E911 call data is routed as emergency traffic and is accompanied by E911 caller information, callers receive the same response from emergency personnel that they are accustomed to receiving from legacy, switched telecommunications 911 services provided by traditional telephone carriers. | reply to jaydub2 Well I've had SunRocket since May 2005 and if my credit card company green light's the dispute I faxed this afternoon I'll have gotten 26 months of service for $199 or $7.65 a month. I can't complain at that.
Before anyone uses this as a model for the demise of Sunrocket, I'm probably an abnormal user. I use 200 minutes a month. I just liked the convenience. They likely still made money off of me. |
