| Help For SunRocket Users
If you are just arriving at BroadBand Reports for the first time, looking for a replacement for your SunRocket service, this site may seem big and confusing. Here are a few of the resources available to help you decide:

| Pay-As-You-Go Services
If you need phone service in a hurry, there are many providers that can sign you up and get you a phone number in minutes at low cost.
Here's an example: Gizmo Project can get you up and running quickly. If you are willing to make and receive calls on your computer until you get an adapter, you can download and use Gizmo Project's soft phone. -- 50775@fwd.pulver.com |

Many VOIP providers let you bring your own adapter or device (BYOD) instead of supplying it for you. (The Gizmo that came with your SunRocket service is an example of an adapter. But it may be locked to your SunRocket service and not usable with other services, unless you want to try unlocking it.)
The advantage of owning your own adapter is that you can easily move it from one provider to another, or use it for two or more providers at once. The disadvantage is that you have to configure its settings for each provider. But the people in this forum can help you with that.
Voxilla is one place where you can buy adapters. The Linksys 1000 and 2000 series models are popular with members of this forum. -- 50775@fwd.pulver.com |

| reply to Test99 Soft Phones
Here are a couple of free soft phones that you can run on your computer. If you sign up with a BYOD (bring your own device) VOIP provider, a soft phone will let you use your new service while you wait for an adapter to arrive.

Note: configuration for your provider's settings required. Ask the provider for help. If they don't have answers, we may be able to help. |

I think this is a great thread title but that there should be a more basic sticky thread at this point (something like »SR - Bankrupt / Recap ; What To Do but without the stupid, stupid Digg references and all-caps shouting) that handles other key information for newly shocked SR customers:
1. What happened to my phone service? (summary of SR collapse)
2. What can I do to get my phone back on? (the alternate services suggested in this thread would be one resource, along with gizmo re-use ideas)
3. Can I get my money back? (credit card chargeback and lawsuit info)
Also, Karl had a great one-line summary in the Mother of All Threads suggesting courses of action for customers.

| Well, not at 3 in the morning, but I'll try to step up some time tomorrow.
Most all the info is out there already, as nuggets in the Mother of All VoIP Threads and elsewhere.

Hello, my dad has Sunrocket, its still working. Today he signed up for Comcast. They are coming to Aug 6th, to bring a new cable modem with a phone jack in it and setup his cable telephone service.
My questions are, they told him he could only port his old number, which they know is his because its been on the Cable TV Bill for years, they could only port his old number if SunRocket is still in business. They said he could only port an active number.
When he gets cable telephone, dont they just type his phone number in a computer as being his etc. So couldnt Comcast just type in his current number, isnt that all porting is?
Comcast wanted 100 bucks to plug a phone line into his new cable modem. Couldnt he just go exchange his current Comcast Cable Modem, for one with a phone jack, plug in the phone line himself and save 100 Bucks?
Is Digital Phone Service via ComCast considered just VOIP through the cable, just like he had with SunRocket and Packet 8, since we have Comcast Internet already and TV.
Thanks, MidiVox |

Here is some good information on how to unlock some Sunrocket devices. It worked for me with the Linksys. Don't know if these Nuvio folks have good service, but there info may be useful.

| reply to Test99 No email from Sunrocket. Service is still working except for voicemail.
Received a "magicJack" today that I bought strictly as a novelty but it makes all outbound calls with no problem.
Signed up for vonage yesterday to take advantage of the 2 free months offer.
No way I'm giving up on VOIP. |

| When did you order "MagicJack" and how long did it take from the time you ordered until it physically arrived? I'm waiting for mine to arrive--ordered Monday Night after closing my eyes and wishing for the best rather than rashly sign up for another voip company. I figured MJ was the lesser of two evils in this case, unless it doesn't work. |

net2Phone looks like they have a pretty good deal. At least 3 months free, and up to 12 months if you prove you have those months left on your sunrocket contract. $20 a month after that:

| Dang it...2 weeks ago everything is fine now this...
Somebody recommended Onesuite SuiteAdvantage...I'm currently checking it out on their website...there's no plan whatsoever so I think it works like a phone card where you pay the minutes that you will use. There's a monthly fee of $2.95 though and currently it only works on Softphone and USB IP phone (thats what the customer rep told me) |
