| 6.0 finally gets to Key West
1.5 and 3.0 got to KW pretty instantly... but 6.0 is finally available (been a while since a looked too... a few months)
They claim new equipment is needed we will see or old Westell just kicks up to 6.0.... at any rate no charge if they do send a new modem. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

| Hey Hayward,
Glad you finally got 6.0 service in KW. I recall your posts from the old Telocity days.
When I upgraded to 6.0, I was also told new equipment may be needed. It was pretty funny when I received a package from BellSouth that contained only a new Yellow Ethernet cable. I was able to use my existing Westel 2100 that I got in 2001 after I moved to BellSouth from DirecTV DSL.

4 edits | Switch seems to have finally been flipped BUT.... the ONLY speed test that shows near 6mbs (local Miami) the rest sub 3mbs or less.
So a question for those who do have 6mbs do you consistantly get it, or only short distance? (Like just a hop off BS/ATT)
Have't done any real large downloads yet, but the speed tests are a bit disapointing and even the Miami test still shows sub 5mbs (4860 or so)
Oddly enough even BS's own rest comes out lower at about 3.8mbs and a decent 440kbs up. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

What's the max sync rate you are getting on the modem? |

4 edits | reply to Splitpair Well a new modem arrived today, but getting pretty much the same results. Ayncing at 6600, but no test resultd over 4800/410,
Its still a Westell 610030-06 This one Rev D.... my old one was rev F though it is two tears older label dat which seems kinda odd. Ahhh just noticed new one is labeled a DSL 2+ Router so I guess D Rev of that.
They sure have changed the software a lot.... how the heck do you put the thing into bridged mode now?

I apologize if I'm missing something here, but it doesn't look like you're modem is syncing to 6 meg at all. 2976 is even insufficient for 3 meg. Those stats (minus the line attenuation) look like what I would about get when I tried 3 meg (I have 56 db attenuation) If this is indeed from the NID, I'd call this problem in. Good luck with the technician.
If possible under any circumstances, I'd try running as short of a line as possible from the NID. Maybe try using a short phone line from the NID to the modem, then use a long ethernet cable from the modem to the PC. |

3 edits | reply to Hayward Hayward look at your screen shot. I'm guessing what I see is a screen shot of your old 3 meg service and if it is note the downstream margin at 7.5. Its only a guess but at 6 meg even though you are synching by your comments at 6600 you might be taking enough errors that your download is getting nailed.
Do another screen shot now that you are on 6 and lets see what that looks like.

If those stats are from your NID's test port then you got some trouble. Take your modem, power adapter, 7 foot twisted pair phone cable that came with your modem, and an electrical extension cord, an ethernet cable, and a laptop outside to your NID unplug the the cable from the NID test port and plug your modem's phone cable into the test port and pull your stats. If you don't have a laptop see if you can invite a buddy over that does. If not then you are going to have to run a long ethernet cable to your computer.
Hayward, I wanted to say that I liked your website, it looks really nice down there. |

I'm guessing due to packet fragmentation and lag (But of course your 2976 downstream sync rate), you're getting some whacky download rates from local tests. If you've tried everything in your best ability (Test at NID, etc) to neutralize the problem, call up Bellsouth/AT&T. |
