If you use Grand Central at the Moment you can use Click to call out for free while in Beta, it rings your phone then the party you are calling, (You get $3 in credit which I understand that they are refill for free while in beta.

You can ask the other party to call you back esp if they have free long distance etc.

I might for the sake of simplicity to buy dial out credit on the Gizmo Project, but they have and all Calls free where you get x number of minutes free. I have typed in (didn't cut n paste just paranoid ;-)) all the settings from Gizmo Project that includes SIP Server Settings Primary, Gateway and Stun Server

Changed the port 5060 to 64064 in SIP Settings --> Line 1 (where you input your credentials)

In SIP Extensions I have set the following

•SIP Session Timer value (sec): 60
•SIP Registration Timer value (sec): 60
•Send RTP on 183 Session Progress : Checked

In Line 1

• Send Out-Of-Band Telephone Events: SIP INFO
No need of setting Line 2

Saved all the settings and reset the ATA. Now my phone is ringing and accepting calls for the past 20 mins.
All of you having trouble please use the above settings and test and let me know if you find anything more.

I currently have unlocked my AC-211 and have it working with voxalot.com. That is another free SIP provider. Then I set up an account with ipkall.com. IPKall provides free DIDs (inbound PSTN phone numbers) that forward to SIP. Then I forwarded my GrandCentral number to my IPKall number. This gives me free inbound calls when people dial either the IPKall number or the GrandCentral number. I also have free voicemail that notifies me via email from GrandCentral, IPKall, and voxalot. Since I mainly used my sunrocket account as a fancy voicemail account anyway, I'm pretty well set. If I decide to make outbound calls I setup another (or many) SIP provider for that.

The ONLY VoIP phone you can forward a GrandCentral call to is one that logs in to GizmoProject, as far as I know.

I was trying to come up with a way to use my GrandCentral or Stanaphone accounts to forward calls to my single-server Sunrocket Innomedia gizmo without disabling the Sunrocket SIP connection(which is still working sporadically).

The point was to still have calls hit the ATA without relying on forwarding to the flaky SR number.

Is there any way to do that?

Having competing standards and companies in the field will make for better services for the users. Open standards are great, since they improve interoperability and reliability. For example, people can writing their own clients, etc.

However, the project is not open-source. At least, their about us [gizmoproject.com] page doesn't mention it. They only say:

At the core of Gizmo Project is a commitment to open standards

Methinks someone at the Register got confused. Those other clients written may be open-source or even free software, but the client they offer surely isn't. Their server software is not even offered for download (nor should it necessarily be -- that's what they want to make the money off, of course).

The license for Gizmo Project software [gizmoproject.com] is quite clear, the software doesn't even qualify for the weaker standard of "open source" (weaker than "free software" which requires that the user have permission to make private derivatives):

The company offers what they call "Opensource support" [gizmoproject.com], which appears to be little more than name-dropping. But I expect people around here to know better than to take on faith whatever a proprietor says.

At the very least, even if there is no intention to bamboozle users into adopting the software, this is yet another use of the term "Opensource" which shows how people don't understand what that term means. Reminiscent of examples of same from the FSF essay on the differences between the free software and open source movements [gnu.org] (examples include Neal Stephenson's writing, the State of Kansas' definition, and a particularly interesting example from a trade show in late 1998).

As a result of a little digging into Project Gizmo, I still see no real competition for GNOMEMeeting. I see one more proprietor asking me to install a mysterious program on my computer so that the proprietor can do something on my computer that I am prohibited from inspecting, sharing, or m
