It's a little too thick, and there was/is only one replacement remote thats even worse.

Care to explain how those tivo remotes are bad? I've had Tivo's and I loved the remotes. Much easier on the hands than some of the crap out there. Some of the Harmony remotes also have a bit of the peanut shape as well.
