| Re: Official email from Sunrocket I too signed up. They must have access to "something" as when I put in my phone number, it had all my information, like name, address, etc. I don't know how secure that is, frankly, if you know someone is with sunrocket, and you know their phone number, now you can BE them, more or less.
They might have some backend security, to keep someone from doing that, but for sure you can get someones name and address from the phone number.

Not knowing much about what really happened to SunRocket, or the real motives behind it having to shutdown, I don't feel like I can say they screwed me over.
Frankly, I am glad they sent out the emails, now people who aren't as tech savvy as some of us, and who maybe got SunRocket due to an advertisement on TV, will have some options, and be able to keep their phone service with little to no downtime.
This is how I feel about the whole thing, and this is only my opinion. -- Give me bandwidth or give me death!

| Re: Official email from Sunrocket said by sandwidth :Ya, to gatorkram, Just in case you didn't know I'll inform you that by definition, yes, you (all of us) were SCREWED!! It's the *way* they did it. Speaking w/ Verizon Voicewing folks, they were just still in awe at what SR did. I called it "unprecedented" and they called it "unbelievable", though I'd guess that someone like Verizon doesn't have to worry about cash problems! All of these startups, independents, etc. etc. will not be seeing a dime of my money any time soon. Maybe I was screwed, but I don't feel like I was.
Several different times in my life, I have been in different "ventures" that involved other peoples money. Several times, I had to "stop" these "ventures" with little to no notice to the people who might be affected by my actions.
Sometimes, there is no good way to "end" something.
I am sure people who paid for a year of service, and only got several months feel very different about the situation than I do. I was billed for this month of service on the 5th, and obviously I don't expect my service will be working until then, although now that I "switched" to this other company, who makes it sound like they can pick my service right back up where Sunrocket left it, I might not even experience a total loss. And no, I don't feel a need to dispute the charges with my credit card company.
Maybe I am just stupid, or maybe due to my unique life experiences, I can relate somewhat to this whole thing.
Surely everyone is free to feel how they wish, and I choose not to feel screwed. Maybe if I had first hand information from the powers to be at Sunrocket, that they did this all with malice, and forethought, I too would feel differently.
I doubt everyone involved with SunRocket, set out to fail, and rob, or otherwise cheat everyone who signed up. Maybe some did, maybe they all did, but I doubt it, and this is why, in the end, I don't feel cheated.
Thanks for reading.. -- Give me bandwidth or give me death!

| I don't care about the *way* they did it. They could have sent me a lollipop first. I paid for two years and they did not give me what I paid for. It's as simple as that. I pay the lawn guy to do my lawn. I prepay him. I come home and half the lawn is done. Now the lawn guy tells me, I'm closing up shop, but you can go to my friend, he does a great job - does any of this infuriate anyone, or am I just being a baby? | |

I fully understand your feelings, and I agree you have a right to be upset. Anyone who pays for something, and then isn't happy with what they got, surely has a right to be upset about it.

Well, you're not being a baby, but it's not exactly like that. Remember, the lawn guy could do NONE of your lawn & you're pretty much screwed.
Same w/ SR. I got about a full year out of them & I was happy with the service. The rest was gravy, but I knew there was no guarantee.
It's like Whimpy used to say........"I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today!". (In this case it was SR & $$$ for VOIP).
There's no federal bailout for 'lawn guys' and likewise 'Sunrocket', though per the FCC thread I started, I'd guess they were riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight on the fence top!
If/when something like this happens to Vonage, I'd suspect we might see a Fed intervention just due to the sheer # of subscribers.

When a huge department store went bankrupt, I lost my funds for a six month plan on oil changes.

Not sure why some people have gotten it, and others have not. It might just be an issue with how much email they have to send out, but who knows.
I signed up in Jan/06 in case that has anything to do with it. The order or the email list, may have something to do with who got email, and who hasn't, again all pure speculation. In this idea, the people who joined most recently would be at the top, and older people at the bottom.

| former annual member Re: Official email from Sunrocket just received the email today, friday, at 1:30pm I had annual plan and had resigned up in March for 15 months. I like their service and had used the signature number in another state. To have all those features for so little money compared to the phone companies has been nice. Yes sometimes the line was not clear but most of the time it was good. I used a chase cc and was able to call them and get a prorated rebate. My suggestion based on that, is only use a Chase CC for charges, they made it painless.
Not sure who or what I will do yet. Since right now the DEALS are out there, but find reviews of services after less than 6 months are not as valuable as those where people were with someone longer. Some seem to just complain. I am sorry you feel shafted. Have you tried to call your credit card company. They will have better luck getting the money back than anyone and giving you credit now.

| Well I was only with SunRocket for 1 1/2 months and was on the monthly plan. I called my Credit Card company to refuse payment on my activation fee. They said they had an e-mail about Sunrocket that morning. Somehow my credit card company knew about the problem before I did. (STILL HAVEN'T gotten that e-mail).
I decided to switch back to AT&T. After spending $49.95 for a cable modem, $10 for installation, I am back to DSL. Which is good because my cable provider sucked, they limit bittorrent.
But I lost my phone number everyone is talking about porting their phone number over my AT&T doesn't seem to be able or willing to do that. They want me to have 2 lines, but my building is 100 years old. My electric lines are covered in cloth and asbestos, I am lucky I have touch tone.

| This blog at the NY Times describes how the Wall St Journal has reported that the "preferred" companies - Teleblend and Packet8 - will pay a fee to SunRockets creditors for each SunRocket customer they sign up.
So if you want to get insulted twice - first by losing your service and the money you paid Sunrocket, then by helping to reimburse it's creditors, by all means go with the "preferred" vendors.
