Another quick update on the situation. Purolator lost our packages of cable modem. Not sure if they were stolen or lost. I will have results tomorrow of the search.

Hey DiskACE,

Tell me something - you said in a previous post that if I keep my Arris multifunction modem, I would not be able to get service with you guys? Do you mean I wouldn't be able to get service USING that modem? Or wouldn't be able to get service at all? Because I HAVE to keep that modem so that my phone line (which is still on contract with Videotron) is still accessible.

Another question: I found an old Motorola SB4200 SurfBoard modem that I used to use with Videotron - can THAT be used with Electronic Box?

I just cancelled Videotron on September 6th - the service will be disconnected on October 6, so I've got a month to figure out what i'm going to do for Internet =) It's between Electronic Box cable and a DSL provider I have in mind atm

Hehehe...just so happens, I have a list of modems that can be used with ebox. Seems videotron, for whatever reason, only allows the following. Most of which can be found at a very reasonable price off fleabay...

Scientific Atlanta DPC2100
Scientific Atlanta DPC2100v2
Motorola SB5100
Motorola SB5101
Motorola SB5120

The problem with the Arris modem is that Videotron prohibit their use outside their internal userbase. When we place an order we need to provide a serial and MAC. If we provide the serial and mac of your arris modem the order will be rejected. Thus, the transfer would not be completed and no service with us would be active.

Yes but i think the SB51xx series are much quicker for download.

Hi, I'm from Montreal, Notre-Dame-De-Grace precisely.
I just canceled from Videotron - what a bunch of losers, they tried to make me pay the penalty fee although I don't have to.

Now I have to find me a new cable ISP (no way I'm going back to DSL), and I'm hesitating between Radioactif and Electronic Box. As far as what I read around, they seem to offer the best deals.

A couple of questions for diskace - btw, it's really cool that you take the time to answer here and that might be a major plus in my ultimate choice:

- Are there any cable modems that are NOT compatible with EB?
- How long will it take from the phone call and the service subscription to the line activation. Being a former Videotron user, will I just need to plug my modem in and that's it? My Videotron connection will be cut off on October 10, when shall I call you?

Thanks for your service.
mike

Hey mike, i hope it will help you make a decision in your ultimate choice

There is a list of compatible modem, not a list of NOT compatible modem. Rickkins posted most of the recent one that are compatible (docsis 2.0).

A transfer is taking about 48-72 hours. You can call tomorrow when you have time and place a delayed order for October 10th.

If you prefer, leave me your number in private message and i will call you back ASAP.

Best regards, DiskACE

Any plans to offer Cable Internet using Roger's network?

Are you planning to offer cable services in Quebec City? I'm already with ElectronicBox, so you must have read my lengthy e-mails to tech support but I've got speed issues with DSL since Bell improved its network in my area. Like getting 3 km farther from the station was really an improvement...

I was thinking about getting a better modem than my refurbished SS5260, but if cable is getting here soon, I might just wait for it and flip off Bell with its improved network.

Thanks!
