1 edit | reply to mac dude The length of cable between the modem and the jack should be as short as practical ... because it's not twisted pair cable ... so that can cause problems, but the effect over that distance compared to other possible line problems is quite small, unless you run it near some source of interference. |

I took the modem outside and plugged it directly into the DMARC. Not sure about the old ones, but the new ones come equipped with two jacks inside the actual box. You open it up and you can plug in a telephone, or in this case the modem, and test it right there. Saves having to go through your entire house to find out if it's a boundary problem. Point being, I got exactly the same results plugging my 2700HG-B gateway (connected to my laptop) that I did with my interior connection. It's not the interior run, it's the 4 plus kilometer run to wherever Bell's got me plugged in to. |
