The one in SC had at least 8000 people and wasn't covered by CNN yet it was covered by local (obviously), AP and other networks. I suspect the one in Iowa will be even bigger but I've not been following it that closely.

Even with big campaigns in South Carolina and Iowa they will choose not to cover them.

As far as Google's concerned it's somewhat interesting but we'll see. Google is a big company and like most big companies somethings get dropped and it's highly possible that since they're a public company they may not redundantly post into news what they already post to "investor relations".
