said by HolmanGT :bluster, A Thin client is a "Full Blown XPe PC" 1.2 GHz CPU and PC2700 DDR ram complete with up to six USB ports built in Video, amplified audio, Fast Ethernet, Microphone port, Printer port and serial port. I am sure I forgot something but you get the point. HP and there are other brands but I use the HP so my comments are directed at HP Thin Clients. They cram all this into a 8X8X1.5 inches box and it doesn't get as warm as you router. No moving parts, no fans and a solid state hard drive. If you get one I would suggest one that has at least 512 Ram and 512 Flash, the 256/256 can be made to work by clearing some space on the hard drive (that only takes about five minutes) My MJ is running on an HP Compaq T5710 256/256 unit and I use it several times a day and don't have any problems (knock on wood). Things like MJ conflicting with some software on a regular PC such as some media players and CD/DVD burning software is a thing of the past. Oh and stone silent when it is on and if it draws more than 12 watts I would be very surprised (but I have never measured it). Actually I have a clamp on ammeter in the garage just been to lazy to open the outlet box so I can get at the wires or maybe it is the long walk to the garage. If you can't steal a deal on a thin client on eBay, those Asus EEE PCs are probably a good alternative to a thin client if you can get your hands on an XP license inexpensively or wait for their upcoming Win XP model. For $300 you have a mini SSHD-based laptop with integrated screen, keyboard and WiFi/Ethernet jack that works as full PC in a pinch. (Sure, you can score a thin client on eBay for $100 if you're lucky, but they're $300 new and the Asus is a little more featured.) I just picked up the 4G w/Webcam model from Buy.com for $350. It's running VoIP nicely via SJPhone and my USB handset, or even in "speakerphone mode" with the built-in speakers/mic if I want to travel light. Skype video works well via the built-in cam. I'll be taking this little beastie on my summer travels this year for e-mail, VoIP, browsing, and keeping up with the TV shows I miss (via broadcast network website's free streaming- a 4GB drive SSHD and XP is a little tight for torrenting!) |

| reply to SMCinAZ I Bought Magic Jack and after instalation completed we tried to call the number it assigned us and we kept getting someone in New Jersey answering the line...we live in Pittsburgh, PA. Tried many times to get in touch with Magic Jack Customer Service about the problem and apparently THERE IS NO Customer Service department but they do have a very aggressive shipping Dept because we have recieved several more Magic Jacks in the mail that we did not order....BIG MESS... NOT RECOMENDED...VERY UNPROFESSIONAL |

Same issue here - incoming calls ring on a completely different number. Cannot get a resolution from MJ tech support, I was told it was a system wide issue this weekend.
I'm ready to send mine back. |

| reply to delk Yes, I got my MJ but I ordered mine with a tracking number. They use the USPS so if it didn't make it to your mail box, then check with the USPS. Maybe it was taken from your mail box. I got mine and it did seem a little buggy at first with the software but after a few minutes it was online working fine. There isn't much customer support and I wish they had a box like vonage that you can plug into a router and run but for $20 a year, what can you say. |

| reply to SMCinAZ Yes, as you see it wasn't that easy, look at the emails I've been sending them but no reply.and there is no one to speak to. Gentleman. I don't understand the philosophy behind your marketing, you do things ass backwards. You sent me the magicjacks but don't have a 954 area code for my area nor a prefix, but you show it as active for Coral Springs on your website, you have taken my entire day trying to register in vain. Do have an idea how enraging that is??? What gives????? if I can't register or don't hear from you I'm sending the products back. Lisa |

It's not as good as it is marketed ... bottom line, it won't work if you turn your computer off. also, the caller id will work for the first day you use it, but once the first day is over, it won't recognize phone numbers and the person calling. i just returned it and am sticking to my previous provider... |

| reply to SMCinAZ Well, I have an off the wall issue which isn't really MJ's fault. I frequently connect to my office via a VPN. Problem is that MJ, (like my other local Online activities at the time) wants to go through the VPN. As a result I frequently get "underwater" connections, or lose the convo completely due to the added hopping and encryption the signal goes through to get to me. I don't know how to get around that. I suppose If I set up another computer and put MJ on that, it would work better, but it isn't currently a valid option. |

I sent one to a cousin in Japan. He got a Washington state number, and talking to him was like he was next door.
Hope this helps.
