Slow speeds and high latency in Queens tonight

Anyone else have the same problem?
»/speedtest?flash=1
Just about the same last night.
It was ok again this morning.

It reminds me of a few years back when the same was happening, bad at night ok in the morning.

Called tech support, total waste of time, the blame was my pc, my modem, my router, my browser, whatever.

Can anyone check in or around the 11385 are code?
Thanks!

Thanks!
Anybody else?

one thing for sure: calling the support in India won't solve anything: they didn't even know that the service was interrupted 6 months ago and kept checking my connection. Verizon doesn't even share their own info with them... go figure
I'd understand if it was some technical problem or something, but I deeply believe that they simply don't care. and that's different.

Zip 11356 - download was slow Wednesday evening, upload wasn't but since to be back in the "normal" ranges tonight, latency (ping time) has gotten better compared to the past week - saw a # of Verizon truck pulling overhead wiring in the neighborhood yesterday morning. Maybe they are just getting ready to prewire FIOS and not upgrading the old copper DSL circuits.

mark5544

@verizon.net

yeah, is back to normal here as well (11204). Let's hope it won't go down again. In any case for 30 bucks a month I'm nnow looking for alternatives because I too belive that the ISO thing has something to do with this slow down. And they'll let down DSL again. AT&T has DSL in my area as well...

And these are the speeds now

Let's see what will be tonight.

@verizon.net

holy crap, what are u running to get those speeds?

im only averaging 184k down, 60 up.

i had the same issues last night into this morning. my down speeds were beginning at 170k and would slowly drop to 9k where it stayed.

i also am in the 11385 glendale code.

Hi
Try it with the speed test in NYC rather than in Miami. That should improve your numbers also.

The same on Staten Island. Seems like an overload slowing speed down in the afternoon. Its great on my 3 meg early in the AM. Guess they want us to switch to fios.

I'm also in Bensonhurt, and past two days, my ping has been horrible all day long, except during the times of 3-6 AM.

ok i used an optimizer and then used the test again this time in nyc

my actual ftp down speed though is still only 10-20 kbs

i think you may be right about them doing this to make us switch to fios. ive seen the trucks up and down myrtle ave all day today

There is no conspiracy to get you to switch to FIOS. This type of thing has been happening occaionally to people with connections of all types for years. Hell, 8 months ago it was the same thing over in Brooklyn. Right before that, parts of PA. It happens during peak usage times and is because either the CO doesn't have the capacity or there is a severly overworked router somewhere.

Post Line Quality Tests when the connection is slow. They often help to pinpoint where the slowdown is happening.

that was the line test i performed at the same time as the first speed test.

im sure you are right about it happening all the time but it has never been as consistently down for this long of time.

Problem is with you, the CO, or the line in between. No packet loss, but do you see that massive ping spike? That is the run from the CO to you. If it gets better later and that spike disappears late at night, the CO is most likely oversold and they need to get more bandwidth in there. Do not bother calling them about it, you'll run around in circles, and nobody will know what the hell you are talking about. Use the Verizon Direct forum.

It looks like it's going down again

This for sure will not be fixed over the weekend.
It is not a line problem but an issue at the CO.
Just did a few tests, at the first hop I already had a 445ms latency.
Go figure Verizon!
Well I have no choice but to wait till monday until I can file a complaint.
