Re: DGL-4300 Wireless and Counter-strike.

Do you have cable? and do you have a boosted service? Thats all I need to know.

YES, its called LINUX
No, it's called "Vista is full of too many bells and whistles." Windows XP SP2 works fine for wireless networks and gaming.

??? Bellsouth is my work ISP... At Home I use Comcast, and I already fixed the issue itself by using Windows XP and disabling Windows Zero Point Configuration. No more polling every 60 seconds.

Anybody on BellSouth typically uses a Westell 2100, 2200,
6100 or 317w ..and as such, the units need a bridged
ethernet mode and PPPoE on the DLINK router itself.

Check out:

And there are a number of wireless tweaks, too.

I tried Ubuntu Linux, it's not functional enough for me. I need Photoshop, 3D Max, VirtualDub, Media Encoding Programs, etc. Also a lot of games I tried it was a pain to get it to work.

Well I finally got it to work. I had to install windows XP on my second drive and disable windows zero configuration in services.msc I get constant 20 ping with no lag spikes finally. However, its a pain to dual boot every time I want to play a game. Hopefully there's a permanent vista fix for this soon. Thanks for all the help & suggestions.

I did some research and find that WLAN is the reason why... No one seems to know how to get internet working with WLAN disabled and people recommended a program called VAL (Vista Anti-Lag). I get less lag spikes and the lag spikes last 1-2 seconds instead of 3-4 but it's still there.

Yes I am using Vista, I searched on google but couldn't find anything of this patch. If anyone knows about the patch & can link me I'll greatly appreciate it.

If you are using Windows Vista, it periodically polls for nearby wireless networks, and every time it does so, there is a latency spike.

There was some patch / utility to disable that polling but I've lost the link.

Reverted back to 1.6 firmware and turned off informational log but it's still doing the same.

Under "LOGS" un-check the "Informational" box the router some time boughs when writing to the internal log file. If than don't work revert back to FW 1.6 but keep the "Informational" log entry turned off....

turn off WPA and WEP and create a white list for WiFi using the MAC off the WiFi of the workstation, then follow this link

I recently got the DGL-4300. I upgraded to firmware 1.8 and am using WPA2. It works great and my download speeds are basically the same as when I used ethernet. However in counter-strike I get lag spikes every 3-4 minutes. I get constant 20 ping in 4 servers I have in my favorites list but every 3-4 minutes it'll jump to 500+ ping and my screen pauses for 3-4 seconds which gets very annoying. This doesn't happen when my ethernet is plugged in (100 ft cord which is why I got wireless). My signal is always 100%, this happens both when I'm the only one using bandwidth and also when someone else is using as well. I disabled SPI firewall, tried various gamefuel settings, forwarded ports, put myself in the DMZ to no avail. I haven't tried WEP because of less security but I suppose that WPA2 could be a reason. Anyone have any suggestions for a remedy?
