| Losing sync with Execulink.ca in Midtown Toronto
I called up Execulink and they suggested that I take out all my filters, unplug all the phones, and connect my Speedtouch Home directly to my pc instead of my router. I am still losing sync every 10 minutes. The guy said I should go to a friends house and test my modem there, cus it could be shot. Hey, if it lasted 10 years, it should last a bit more. I am between Yonge st and Mt. Pleasant rd. on Davisville Ave. I just popped my ip in Google, and it mapped out the ip address in Woodbridge, ON! Is this the closest CO that Bell has setup for midtown Toronto? Is anyone else having this problem?
Worst part is that I had to fight and argue to get a measly 2.4mbit service, as they only gave me 1mbit to start, yet I am paying for 5megabits. |

| What you're seeing is not the CO. Your CO is not in Woodbridge it's somewhere closer to where you live. I've checked my IP address in the past and it's shown Brampton, Milton, Toronto etc. I live in Ottawa and have a solid 5 meg connection so that really has nothing to do with where your CO is. In my case the CO is very close by in my neighbourhood.
I would borrow a modem and try it at your house. If it works then you know it's your modem.
There's nothing anyone can do if you're too far from the CO to get 5 megs. Have you looked into whether there's a remote in your area that you can be moved to? Your ISP can look into this for you. |

1 edit | reply to albundyhere said by albundyhere :yet I am paying for 5megabits. You pay for UP TO 5mbits. There's no ISP out there that can guarantee you get 5mbits or even close to that. Like the previous poster said, your distance to the CO will determine that. |

1 edit | reply to albundyhere Did some line stats with alcatool, and this is what came up:
Operational data report : near end (Downstream) ----------------------------------------------- Attainable line rate : 4164 kbit/sec Attainable Atm rate : 3808 kbit/sec Used line rate : 3312 kbit/sec Fast used Atm rate : 3008 kbit/sec Interleaved used Atm rate : 0 kbits/sec Rel. capacity occupation : 80 Noise Margin : 10 dB Line attenuation : 46 dB Output Power : 19 dBm
Operational data report : far end (Upstream) --------------------------------------------
No data available.
Near End line operational data : RelCapacity downstream = 80 pct NoiseMargin downstream = 10.0 dB OutputPower upstream = 12.0 dBm Attenuation downsteam = 46.0 dB Operational Mode = 2 pct
Far end line operational data relCapacity upstream = 60 pct noiseMargin upstream = 19.0 dB outputPower downstream = 19.5 dBm Attenuation upstream = 28.0 dB
My noise margin is kinda low and my output power seems high. The last time I did this test was when I subscribed to the service which was set on interleave. I tested my modem somewhere else, and it is not the problem. |

| reply to albundyhere I could be wrong but I think that by getting a new quality modem you could improve your line a good amount. Especially since you said its 10 years old or so. The new technology in Some dsl modems today can make a huge difference.
For example in my case I could only get 3mb connection on my old modem I then bought a New Speedtouch 516 and Now I my line can support up to 7mb+ Also I'm adsl2 ready with the new modem.
Lets wait and see what others have to say but I would suggest you pickup a SpeedTouch 516 Modem they can be had for around $70-80 give online.

Ciao But in your case, I think your Gnet modem was down right defective. Hence the huge improvement. -- Test your Speed »www.speakeasy.net/speedtest »speedtest.cogeco.net/ |

| reply to albundyhere Well it was not defective to the point where it did not work. My problem was that I would get disconnected sometimes.
I even had to send it in and they replaced the MB in the DSL Modem and it fixed nothing, so basically it was just a crappy Design and a waste of $$ thats why i will never buy Gnet again |

| Did this happen just recently? I know right now my speeds are poor:
»/linequality/nil/2255745
Read some other threads and seems others have experienced a similar problem since last night? My father's line also has similar experience except his Speedtouch 516 reset on him last night and I had to set up the VPI on it again. |
